Hofstra, Touro, or St. John's Forum

So I am having a tough time choosing a school. A little background, I had been working for an elder care attorney since freshman year of college. Upon graduation last year I was given a full time job as a paralegal with the same attorney. I have now applied to law school and have heard back from 3. My LSAT scores were a 149 and 150. My undergrad GPA at St. John's was a 3.8. My goal is to become a partner with the attorney I work for now as she has expressed this interest to me. My dilemma is the following: I have received admission into Hostra Law with no scholarship. I have received admission into Touro Law with a $23,000 scholarship. I have been waitlisted at St. John's Law. I am waiting to hear back from Rutgers, Brooklyn, and CUNY Law. I am unsure as to what to do and was hoping someone on this board could give me some advice. Both Hofstra and Touro have deposit dates of 5/15/14 for $400 and $800 respectively. Thank you for any advice.

Retake so hard, man. There's virtually no way to make a good investment with a 150 LSAT. How did you study?

Definitly retake, but wait till you're PTing at at least 165+ consistantly

Yale admitted a 152 last year. I so wanted it to be a 150 for that extra shithead factor.

*Note to OP: Your plans are great (having a job you like lined up before school), but you still need to retake and get free tuition at one of these three schools.

Hi!

I am a current Touro student. Congrats on getting into Law School! I would definitely recommend you coming to Touro if you are interested in Elder Law because the school is implementing a bunch of new opportunities in Elder Law. If you do not want to take the LSAT again (which I assume you wouldn't because your score is not likely to have a dramatic increase) then I recommend going to school that gives you the most amount of scholarship money. If that's Touro then welcome! If CUNY accepts you, I would definitely consider CUNY because their tuition is dirt cheap and they are highly respected in the area of public interest law. The legal market is in a state of flux right now that you don't want to risk going to law school paying full price.

About Touro now...My experience here has been great. I am in the top of my class, have a scholarship, got a fellowship for the summer, got more than 4 job offers for the summer, and received the CALI award for two classes. However, one thing i do not like about Touro is that there are not many opportunities for students outside of the Long Island area. That may be a good thing for you if you live on the island and want to start your career here (there are many notable firms in long island, such as Rivkin, and Rosicki). However, for students wanting to work in Manhattan, it is limited to the top 10% (which I am in - but I want you to know what you are getting yourself into).

Law School is Law School no matter where you go. After a couple of years out in practice no one is going to care where you went, they would just want to know if you could do the work. Hope this post helps!

How would you know?

Law School is Law School no matter where you go. After a couple of years out in practice no one is going to care where you went, they would just want to know if you could do the work. Hope this post helps!

entry level opportunity vary dramatically depending on the law school yo attend. Half of Touro will not practice law as a career.

did any of you above offer any real insight or advice? Who cares about the half of Touro that won't practice.. i just care about myself. Also many LSAT tutors even say that scores don't drastically increase. Focus on the post that you clicked on

I mean, I'm all for the attack the ttt routine, but we do have statistics, and he's right about retakes on average.

Financial suicide? You should be banned for speaking without saying anything of substance and value.

Financial suicide is the nature of law schools right now if you are not aware. Law school in general is in a state of flux. Everyone here seem to have some opinion on a particular school that they never attended but only have read about. It's ok though...I guess its pick on the touro kid today.

- As you can see there is a lot of dislike towards Touro. I only chose the school because of the generous scholarship that made it basically free. Re-take the LSAT and reapply. If not, then go to the school that gives you the most money. Also take everyone's advice with a grain of salt. As you can see, we are all little biased.

ask the atty what you will make if you join the practice, then do the math on your graduate debt and monthly payments. i think you'll find you can't really afford to take any of these offers given your goal.
