WUSTL is ranked higher, has smaller class size, & slightly better big law placement

29% Big + 3.3% Fed Clerk

28 + 4.8% Fed Clerk

Their prospects are more or less even.

NY big law isn't realistic from either.

100k is pretty much the upper limit for reasonable COA at either.

Real question seems to be how much unreasonable debt are you willing to take on to live where you want

GW placement in BigLaw is rough, but WUSL is as well. I just turned down a full ride from the latter and I'm pretty sure that was the right decision. I hear some pretty scary shit from 2Ls and 3Ls at WUSL about OCI and the CSO. I spoke to the new Dean on the phone before the deposit deadline and she could not furnish a persuasive arg't for me to choose WUSL over Duke, Vandy or UT for BigLaw.

If you want internships in fed govt or DC courts or something else that is specific to DC, then I don't think it's crazy.

NY Biglaw is more possible from GW I believe. But it's not a significant difference.

Reasonable justifiable threshold baring extraordinary circumstances (i.e. Significant other has job & cannot move, ailing family members requiring care at home etc.) would be tops 15k - considering they are virtually identical it would be like burning 20,000 dollars cause interest on the basis of preference - which I suppose could be justified? I mean to be anything more for a school that will place equally well is foolish but I guess somehow, someone might say 15k? 60k - is the equivalent of 2 brand new BMW Z3s - not sure people realize how much money they are refering too nowadays when they throw around numbers. That's mind-numbing debt for normal human beings - now times that by 3 for GW's 160k COA & think about if you would like avoid the pain and misery thereof or not.

You'll probably need to be top 20% and a good interviewer to get NYC from wustl, barring any unique circumstances. It's by no means assured but it is the 3rd or 4th largest market where graduates go.
