(UT$$$) vs. (Duke$)
longtime lurker here and i have a big decision in front of me.
my goals are clerkship-->biglaw/bigfed (yes i know these are pretty unrelated fields, I am still trying to pinpoint what I want to do)
choices are UT (25k a year and instate, so about 9k tuition a year) vs. Duke (19k a year, so about 35k tuition a year). because i paid ug, my parents have agreed to pay around 17-20k a year. with this in mind the total COA is Duke: 139K and UT 35K
I would be taking out gradplus/stafford loans to pay for these amounts.
I have no preference where I want to work, although I would love to leave TX (again this isn't essential).
PLZHALPME.

Come on dude Duke is great it's not 100k better - this is not a real decision actually requiring forum input.

I'm guessing OP was just posting to validate his choice, see his screen name lol.PrideandGlory1776 wrote:Come on dude Duke is great it's not 100k better - this is not a real decision actually requiring forum input.

TX seems like the answer. If you really really want to leave TX and you aren't terrified of $140k in debt and cuz you have awesome parents, Duke is not a bad choice.
ETA: don't spend $100k to leave TX for three years. seems silly. don't spend $100k to have a 10% (or whatever, not gonna look it up) shot at biglaw. Maybe spend $100k to leave TX forever and to have a much better shot at any biglaw outside of TX/OK/etc.

48.55% shot. Duke = lot safer bet for Biglaw (but damn that 35K is nice)

Sorry the intent there was 10% greater shot. ~10% or whatever it is over TX. Tho that should mean its closer to 18% greater chance thoMrSebastian wrote:yossarian71 wrote:TX seems like the answer. UT for $35k + TX ties is a good place to be. Go for it.
