and by better i mean their partners make more money because they work more hours.

What? If you want big law you don't "need" HYS. good scholarship at ccn beats sticker any day. However, HYS give opportunities other than big law that are rare elsewhere.

Yu won't get a 'better' law firm regardless without performing well

HYS -->better shot at more well regarded starting positions as opposed to other T14 --> better exit options (in house or otherwise) which could be more lucrative and/or bring about a better long term legal job.
