Uchi (sticker) vs. UVA ($$)

Post by cmorkane » Mon Apr 14, 2014 12:36 pm

Hey guys, been stalking for a little while, but now that it's coming down to decision time, I thought I would seek out help from you experts.
-The schools you are considering
Chicago and UVA. No other acceptances that I'm interested in. Wait listed at Duke.
-The total Cost of Attendance (COA)
UVA: 115k (this amount includes schollys, parents, etc)
Uchi: 205k (just includes parents help)
-Where you are from and where you want to work, and other places where you have significant ties (if any)
From Southern East Coast. Interested in working wherever I can get a job that will pay me the most $$$$$. Preferably not NYC, but I'm certainly not crossing it off my list.
-Your LSAT/GPA numbers
3.73 168

Thanks.

$115K is how much UVA SHOULD cost. Go to Charlottesville; especially with you being a Southerner. If you do end up beating the odds and doing well, being a Southerner from UVA opens up all of the Southern markets (Atlanta,Birmingham,Charlotte, Richmond, Nashville etc.). For all the negatives associated with biglaw, making biglaw money in those markets at the typical law grad age with moderate debt is ridiculous.

UChi at sticker is laughable.

I didn't represent those numbers accurately. The numbers represent the amount of money I will be taking out for loans. All of the rest will be covered by various sources.

That's what I assumed. $115K in student loans for all 3 years at UVA is fair. Like I said that's about how much the degree/school is actually worth.

UChi is not worth sticker. I don't know if any school is--but UChi isn't even in the discussion.

I think Chicago has a very real advantage over UVA in a number of respects. None of them are worth $90K.

Out of these options, UVA. But I would consider retaking.
