Want to work in Miami, Where to go to school
So I want to eventually end up in Miami but I want to go to the best law school so I have the best chance of employment anywhere. I was thinking T14 or top 20 at least but none of those are in FL or near it. What school feed into the Miami market? Should I even look at UM since it isn't very highly ranked?

You are from Miami and have ties?

Do you have ties to Miami?
If not, you're going to have a very difficult time getting a decent job in Miami.
If so, the only schools outside of Florida that will realistically get you Miami are the top 14 and Vanderbilt, and all these schools will give you a better shot (although still far from a guaranteed one) of the top-paying jobs in Miami than any schools in Florida would, and they will also open up more employment options in other markets. Their ability to place you into Miami will roughly correlate with their ranking.

I don't have any ties which is why I am considering UM but I am not sure that I want to go there because it basically eliminates the chance of big law to recover my debt. I obviously expect a larger scholly if I could go T14 and went there but still not sure if it is worth the risk of losing out on other jobs. I think I eventually want to be a DA or work in PI but I change my mind so much.

It's more like
T14 > Vandy > Emory > UF/FSU > Miami > don't go
T14 > Vandy > Emory > UF/FSU > Miami > don't go

Do UMiami adcomms post here now or something? I feel like every other thread is people arguing that UM is awesome and amazing.

I agree with this generally.hichvichwoh wrote:T14 > Vandy > don't go > Emory > UF/FSU > Miamiitachiuchiha wrote:It's more like

For a legal job in miami with no ties, though, the answer is HYS > UMiami knowing that even if you're able to get a legal job, it won't pay enough for you to make your loan payments > don't go.
Alternatively, you could do T14 --> NYC Biglaw --> lateral to Miami once you have more time to look and more time to build up a story as to why you want Miami.

Thanks I think I may try to take a year and work in Miami before going T14 to law school that way at least I will have ties if I want to go back. I think getting a job there won't be too difficult from undergrad.
