Cornell vs Duke vs NU

Post by retaking23 » Fri Apr 11, 2014 12:40 pm

I know these schools are peers. Nonetheless, if you absolutely had to pick one to attend, which way would you rank them assuming you liked each equally and were indifferent to employment region/prospects (i.e., say you wanted to do NYC big law). All else equal, how would you rank these schools. And, for a little caveat, how much more would you say is the #1 worth more than the #2 and the #3.

Weird question, I know. BUT, I really would appreciate some opinions.

If I wanted Chicago, NU. If I wanted NY, I'd pick whichever of Duke and Cornell I liked more after visiting.

Visit all three, and go to the one that leaves you with the best impression.

Also, I don't see how someone *couldn't* have a preference between the three, being that all three are in very different locales.

Hmmm. What if this someone:
1) had a SO who just so happened to get accepted ED to NU and badly wanted said someone to go too
2) had a mother who went to Cornell and bled Cornell red
3) had a father who went to Duke and was publishing the all-telling, private memoirs of Nixon

Oh, and suppose this someone's parents were divorced but had taken said someone to Chuck E Cheese's an equal amount of times. And, suppose too that this someone's SO had also treated this person to Chuck E Cheese's many times.

What should that someone do? Keep in mind that if he takes a cycle off to shoot for HYS, all three of these people would stop taking him to Chuck E Cheese's.

It's a really tough call.

Probably Northwestern. But I am curious about the cross-admit matriculation b/t the three.

If being with your SO isn't even a priority here, do you expect the relationship to last? I ask because being in school with your recent ex may cause some unnecessary drama.

if your SO is in the picture, and you want to stay together, then clearly go to NU. If this is not obvious to you, then you should break up with your SO and go to Duke or Cornell...

NU for midwest
Duke for the South/Cali/TX
Duke or Cornell for NY

Or don't go to the same school as your SO in order to test the bonds of love.

ETA: Just go to the one you want to go to. But, don't go for just for an SO, unless you're likely going to get married.
