What are y'all thoughts about Indiana Maurer
Can Indiana Maurer help me land a big law job in Texas. I am from Texas and would like to go back after graduating. Or should I just go to University of Houston/SMU.

0L here.
But I don't think IU is going to land a big law job in Texas. It's also unlikely from SMU/Houston. Most people are going to tell you to retake for UT or t14, if you really want big law.

Looking at the statistics: U/H and SMU both plaice about 18%-20% of their class in big law. I don't think thats bad at all. I understand UT gives you a higher chance but UH/SMU can land you a big law job in Texas.jk148706 wrote:0L here.

Yes, some grads get big law jobs from those schools. But you have to ask whether the $200k of debt is worth a less than 1/5 chance of landing a big law job.life2323 wrote:Looking at the statistics: U/H and SMU both plaice about 18%-20% of their class in big law. IU is good for Indiana..that is pretty much it.
Top students can get Chicago and NY, have not heard of Texas.

IU is a great school but it is local or regional at best. If you want TX, Houston/SMU would be better options.

If you are a Texas resident and you received enough scholarship money to seriously be considering IU, then you shouldn't be very far, at all, from getting into UT. Retake the LSAT and ED UT next year, I would say, but it's tough without more details.
Otherwise, Houston and SMU (more so SMU) are fine choices if you have a good scholarship, just don't plan on biglaw. It's a real possibility, but go in planning for the small law hustle.

Well, yeah, of course they CAN. Cooley can theoretically land you a job clerking for the Supreme Court.
The question is, are the odds good enough to bet on it if Big Law is your number one goal?

I suppose it can help in the sense that you generally need to be enrolled in some law school to get a biglaw associate position, but no, not really. You need to go to UT or SMH/Houston on a very large scholly, or rethink your emphasis on biglaw.
