I assume Ohio State is giving you a full ride with your stats. If that's true, and your S/O could cover most of the CoL, how is the projected debt so high?

Ohio State is giving me about 11k per year. I tried to negotiate and was told they couldn't give more money until MayTheSpanishMain wrote:I assume Ohio State is giving you a full ride with your stats. If that's true, and your S/O could cover most of the CoL, how is the projected debt so high?

Yeah, OSU should make it rain for you with that LSAT. I'm surprised.

I don't know if this is kosher, but if it is, I would double deposit at Ohio State and Michigan, take the June LSAT, and see how much they up your scholarship. Not to mention you should tell the schools that WL'd you.

Of course that's kosher. And a great plan, though I don't know that the extra LSAT will pay great dividends at OSU.riverwater wrote:I don't know if this is kosher, but if it is, I would double deposit at Ohio State and Michigan, take the June LSAT, and see how much they up your scholarship. I'm pretty surprised you didn't get in at Northwestern. Ohio St is questionable here, b/c you want large firm work. Vandy is questionable here, b/c you have no interest in the South. Michigan is questionable here, b/c $160k at Michigan. A June retake and waitlisting are more enticing to me than any of these three options, tbh ...

I think if OSU believes you are serious about going you'd get a full ride. If you really want big law go Michigan. 160k is on the high side for it, but if you are really committed to big law it is defensible and probably your best school for big law in Ohio

I'd talk to OSU and see if they will bump your scholarship up. Tell them you have an offer from Michigan and are leaning on going there. As of now, I think Michigan is the best option.

Yep. A bunch of questionable options.cron1834 wrote:I'm pretty surprised you didn't get in at Northwestern. Ohio St is questionable here, b/c you want large firm work. I agree Mich is defensible here. Would you rather work at a small firm in Ohio (with little debt) or a large firm in NYC? If you are cool with small firm work in Ohio, it's a decent option, just not at that price. You probably need to get total COA down to 50k or less. I think Vandy is completely out here. I would definitely ride those other WLs. Good luck on your June test!

Maybe deposit at Michigan and see if they bump your award if you improve your score...

Nah I don't think OSU does it like that. No need to offer someone with a 3.4 a full ride and looking at LSN it doesn't look like they do many full rides anyway.northwood wrote:reapply.. you should not be paying tuition at OSU.
I think Michigan is defensible here but I'd deposit at both Michigan and OSU and see how the retake plays out.

Right. I didn't expect a full ride from OSU, but I still thought they kinda low balled me.Tiago Splitter wrote:Nah I don't think OSU does it like that. Re: Vandy/Mich/state Flagship/ reapply?
It seems like the ability of your spouse to get a job wherever you go is going to have a big impact on your debt estimates. If it turns out it'll be a lot easier for them go get a job in Nashville rather than Ann Arbor then Vandy is much more appealing. But if that consideration doesn't affect things I think Michigan is worth 40k more than Vandy for your goals.
I agree with Rad that about 20k more would swing my vote. Debt under 100k is a good number to shoot for.
