Advantages of Rubenstein/Hamilton aside from $$$?

Post by emu42 » Sun Apr 06, 2014 6:51 pm

Hi all,
I was wondering if there are any advantages to getting a Ruby/Hammy past the loads of cash. How does the faculty mentorship work, are there cool Ruby/Hammy meetings, and is it beneficial to mark these scholarships down on your resumes (i.e. does it look good in the eyes of employers)?

Thanks

The Rubenstein's are paired up with a faculty member. That person serves as your mentor through law school, and will do awesome things like make calls to judges on your behalf. That relationship, like with all your professors, is what you make of it. Otherwise, the Ruby's meet with the Dean of Students once in a while, and get together for a dinner once a year. You can certainly mark it down on your resume.

Not sure how it is at Columbia (imagine the same), but the Ruby's are pretty good at being low-key about it. Students generally do not know who the Ruby's are and that information certainly is not volunteered. As such, most will not list in on their LinkedIn, etc.
