Ole Miss or Syracuse?
I'm having a tough time choosing between Ole Miss and Syracuse for for law school. Ole Miss would cost me about 6k per year while Syracuse will cost me about 16k. I'm still waiting to hear from Albany, Buffalo, and Michigan State. Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have ties to or preference for a particular region? Ole Miss won't go far in NY and vice versa for Syracuse.

Re: Ole Miss or Syracuse?
I am from Upstate NY and the thought of attending Ole miss is appealing, but I don't think I want to live in the deep south for all of my life. Ole Miss has a higher employment rate post graduation than Syracuse though (58% vs 45%). I also would have about 30k more debt coming out of Syracuse. I don't know which area of law I would like to practice in yet; I figure that I will have a good idea after 1L.

If you have no ties to the South do not go to Ole Miss. Syracuse isn't worth going to unless it is close to free. I was accepted at Albany Law and will probably attend there if it ends up being cheaper than Syracuse.

I don't see how I could financially be ruined by only taking on the maximum of 30k in debt right now. Law school doesn't seem to be a bad option at the moment for me.

You should retake and at least get into the 160s. Then you would get to go to these schools for free and maybe even get paid to go. And you'd have law school options that give you better than a 50/50 shot at being a lawyerbaumgar wrote:I don't see how I could financially be ruined by only taking on the maximum of 30k in debt right now. Would it be difficult to increase my score from a 155 to in the 160's?

How did you study for the LSAT this time? The LSAT is a very learnable test. I am not one of those that thinks everyone can get into the 170s, but everyone can get into the 160s with enough practicebaumgar wrote:Would it be difficult to increase my score from a 155 to in the 160's?

I took about 20 practice tests in preparation and I averaged a 155.

Go on the LSAT prep forum on this site and look for advice on preparation and study guides. Your future will be much better if you retakebaumgar wrote:I took about 20 practice tests in preparation and I averaged a 155.

Ole Miss's employment is going to be in Mississippi. I doubt you fully understand what that means if you haven't lived there or close to it. It's probably going to feel like Haiti to you.

Urban legend?
An Ole Miss JD gets you an auto admit to the Miss bar….
True.
Was true, but no longer so
Never true.
If you could bypass the bar hassle, I'd vote Ole Miss!

Getting out of the bar is no reason to pick a law school. Especially one in which you have no ties. What's the point of not taking the bar exam if you can't get a jobtwenty 8 wrote:Urban legend?

I don't have that many ties in New York either though.

You're probably not going to get a legal job in a place where you don't have ties. Could happen depending on the market, but it will be more of an uphill battle than it should be.
If you want to be a lawyer I would reapproach this whole venture. Retake, withdraw, reapply, and be smarter about which schools/markets you target.

I think they stopped doing it when Mississippi College opened a law school in the mid to late '70s.
OP, you shouldn't go to Ole Miss from NY with no ties to the South. PM me for more info.
