Re: CHI ($) vs. NU ($$$) vs. UVA ($$$)
I read too quickly and thought 25k was total CoA.
Revote to UVA.

Re: CHI ($) vs. NU ($$$) vs. UVA ($$$)
If you can't get UChicago to up their scholarship offer significantly, just decide would you rather live in Charlottesville or Chicago for the next three years. Particularly since you just want biglaw. NU and UVA will likely get you itqtclawyer wrote:Hey everyone,
So I'm in a very first-world conundrum right now between three law schools (I've been accepted into more, but I've narrowed it down to just three). I'd just really like to get your feedback about where I should go, because I certainly have no idea at this point. I really only have one big question, but let me lay out my options first.
CONSIDERING: University of Chicago, Northwestern University Law School, University of Virginia
SCHOLARSHIPS: Chicago: 25k total; Northwestern: full tuition; Virginia: full tuition
FINANCING: Savings and family will cover all living expenses regardless of which school I attend. In the case of the tuition differential, I will be taking out loans.
WHERE AM I FROM: Washington, D.C. Although I'm originally from the Midwest. The only place that I really don't want to end up working is New York City. I'm really interested in working in Texas or California, but I'm not sure how far one can go there without ties at this moment (if someone could weigh in on that, I'd really appreciate it). However, at the end of the day, I am very, very flexible. I've also lived in a city for the past few years, so I don't think I would mind a small town like Charlottesville.
CAREER GOALS: To be very honest, I don't have anything in specific in mind. I've got work experience at one of the world's largest law firms, and I enjoyed it quite a lot there, so I really just hope to get a similar BigLaw job after graduation. Of course, I'd really like to be able to have a prestigious position like a clerkship, but for now, just work with I want a good job in BigLaw. (I guess a good prerequisite for a law school is that I want to be able to experience the most I possibly can, so that when I do graduate, I'll know just what I want to do).
LSAT and GPA: I don't really want to re-take the LSAT, so let's just say they're fine.
So, basically, with the above information, I just want to know if the scholarships I have at Northwestern and UVA are worth whatever benefit Chicago might bring to table. I understand that Chicago is an arguably better school, but is it worth giving up six figures in scholarship money?
NOTE: I know some of you might say negotiate with Chicago. I'm currently in the process of that. Just let me know about the numbers that I have here.

If you would prefer not to be in NYC, then NU might be better than UVA. Chicago is an easier non-NYC local market than DC.

Re: CHI ($) vs. NU ($$$) vs. UVA ($$$)
There's no way Chicago is worth six figures more than UVA or NU. I'd personally pick UVA here, especially since you already have ties to the Midwest, but you can't go wrong with NU either. Just to throw in some anecdotal evidence - I'm a UVA student heading to Texas this summer with 0 ties, so it's doable (though it likely depends on where in Texas you want to go). Have you visited NU and UVA? If not, I'd definitely advise you do so.

Get Chi to increase their offer and go there? Otherwise, it probably should be UVA
