MD or PSU
I have Maryland Law at $10k/year and in state and Penn State Law at $40k/year.
I'm having a tough time deciding between the schools.
Maryland with COA and all would be ~145k, according to their calculations, and Penn State would be about ~70k with their calculations.
Anyone think the leap is worth it? I am in the process of negotiating with MD but I have not heard back yet, other than that it is being reconsidered.

Do you want to practice in Maryland or PA? Do you have ties to either?

If you must go PSU because its cheap. Well relatively. I still probably wouldn't even go there. However, its not the worst option in the world.

Yeah, it really depends on where you want to practice. If you go to Maryland but want to practice in PA, you'd have to sit for two different bar exams (no reciprocity between PA and MD).
But seriously, don't go to PSU. Sandusky has tainted that place into oblivion.

Both are too expensive at those prices, IMO. I'd only go to either for free (or very close to it...like <20k in debt) and a desire to work in MD or PA, along with an indifference to Big Law.

Penn State's employment scores tanked for the class of 2013.

Well, no - you could just take PA to start with; there's no requirement that you take the MD bar exam just because you go to law school in MD.Mauve.Dino wrote:If you go to Maryland but want to practice in PA, you'd have to sit for two different bar exams (no reciprocity between PA and MD).

Re: MD or PSU
is MD instate tuition- 10K/ year + Cost of Attendance? and Penn State is 40K a year ( what about cost of attendance)?
I'm just trying to figure out your math. But of these two ( assuming that they are roughly the same costs)- id go to wherever I had ties, and if the answer is neither, I would not go to either of them.

Yeah, that's true--sorry about that, my mistake.A. Not sure what I was thinking; though, if someone went to school in MD they may not cover the information on the PA exam (and vice versa). I don't know how much of an obstacle that would be, however.
Anyway, I confused myself--ha, ha!

Re: covering the info on the PA exam - you don't learn anything about local law in law school - at least, not enough to pass the bar exam; that's why you take a bar prep course that's specific to the state exam you're taking (unless your state administers the UBE, which covers no state law at all, wheee).Mauve.Dino wrote:Yeah, that's true--sorry about that, my mistake.A. I mean, I don't think it makes sense to go to law school in MD if you want to practice in PA or vice versa, but not because of the bar exam.
