US News 2015 Rankings are released.
http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... w-rankings
People used to go nuts for these in years past. I'm shocked that there wasn't already a thread for this.

Good to see Duke moving up and Michigan / UVA moving down. That's all been long overdue.
But bumping GULC up to tie with Cornell? Wtf
Edit: lol @ W&L

Nice bump for W&M. And American didn't fall nearly far enough.

Emory up at 19 and USC down at 20 is surprising. Emory has a lot of volatility it seems, only a few years ago it was ~30. Anyway, I suppose it is a good thing that US News rankings are less important than in years past.

Wake me up when LST releases new score reports. Those are the "rankings" that matter.

I'm curious about the employment stats. Yale, for instance, has their employment listed as 89%, whereas UPenn has theirs at 95%, yet Yale is first and UPenn is 7th. Wouldn't potential employment be the main factor in deciding what school to attend?
I don't pretend to understand.

Reputation is factored into the score, and Penn took a big hit from the Sandusky scandal.Mauve.Dino wrote:I'm curious about the employment stats. Ahh--that was actually Penn State that endured Sandusky's taint, but it's interesting how they made a gigantic leap in the rankings this yearBildungsroman wrote:Reputation is factored into the score, and Penn took a big hit from the Sandusky scandal.Mauve.Dino wrote:I'm curious about the employment stats. UPenn--thankfully--is not the school affiliated with an obsessive football culture.

Penn = Penn State is actually a very very old, very very bad joke.

This may be obvious, but how big of a role should these rankings play in making a final decision? All other factors aside

Anyone know when/where you can get the LSAT/GPA 25-75th's that go along with the rankings? I know they're usually posted somewhere even if not on TLS.

Rankings themselves shouldn't play that much of a role, in my opinion. HOWEVER, some of the factors such as employment statistics that play a major role in the rankings SHOULD play a role. The major drop in ranking for W&L (-17) should raise a red flag as it seems to be largely due to very very poor employment at graduation and 9 months post-graduation.goldgirl786 wrote:This may be obvious, but how big of a role should these rankings play in making a final decision? From ATL (http://abovethelaw.com/2014/03/the-u-s- ... restige/2/)
On the flip side of that coin, Suffolk Law in Boston went from #144 last year to unranked this year. That’s $45K to go to a now unranked law school in the competitive Boston market. Suffolk was ranked #135 just two years ago. People graduating from Suffolk Law this spring started off going to a middling law school in Boston, but they’re graduating from an expensive private school that isn’t even ranked. And it’s not like Suffolk is going to give any of its students a discount or rebate for the school’s fall from U.S. News grace. My prediction for Suffolk Law graduates: Pain.
Suffolk students, current and prosective, what are your thoughts?

I'm surprised ATL coverage doesn't focus on the regional affect of the rankings given that almost all if the non-t14 schools are regional. (Ex washington & lee falling will almost certainly help william & mary recruit better in VA; wake forest moving up will likely help it recruit against UNC in NC).

As someone considering Suffolk, I want to know if this really matters in the grand scheme of things. Suffolk is so huge - there are going to be a wide range of student performances and employment outcomes. I have no illusions that Suffolk is anything but a huge risk. Trying to measure the reaction.patogordo wrote:lol he also made like five threads to post the same thing
