What do you mean, "What should you do?" What exactly is your question?

Not really sure what my question is, other than what people think of those options.

I'm not quite sure I understand why I "almost certainly won't get legal academia" what makes you say that?

The jobs don't really exist, and the ones that do go to HYS kids typically. You have to do exceedingly well in school. Profs who have them clutch on to them and keep them as long as they possibly can. And who can blame them? No real accountability, no huge pressure to publish tomes, law kids fix all your crappy articles and no one blames you for churning out crap, and its a relatively high paying gig. It's like the cushiest job ever.

Not to mention, you haven't gone to law school yet so how are you sure you know you want to teach in one?

As for your options, we would need to know a lot more about your situation/aspirations to really comment.

Aside from what Zuck said (and it's actually harder than even just getting into HYS, as you typically have to score high enough in your class to get a good federal clerkship), the academic hiring market has cratered. Schools are "buying out" professors and cutting back hiring because everyone is realizing law school's the sucker's bet.
