Wake Forest or UNC: For East Coast Mobility?
Which school, WFU or UNC, provides more mobility up - down the eastern seaboard? Ideally, I'd like to work in one of BOS / NYC / DC (or, yes, in North Carolina too).
Most metrics I've encountered paint the schools as being on equal footing in almost every respect. Is that wrong?
[Posts which only suggest I weigh cost are irrelevant at this point & non-responsive.]

I wouldn't go to either expecting to leave NC, but I say Wake has more mobility, just out of the fact that a large percentage of the class leaves NC. The alumni are pretty dispersed so the NE is doable with good grades. UNC people seem to stay in NC for the most part.

Fortunately I went to undergrad in one of the top three markets where I'd like to practice.YankeesFan wrote:I wouldn't go to either expecting to leave NC, but I say Wake has more mobility, just out of the fact that a large percentage of the class leaves NC. neither of these schools is mobile outside its immediate vicinity.
few law schools are mobile.
if displeased with answer, retake, reapply, profit.

still going to struggle for exposure. i would strongly recommend at this level you seek a school in the market in which you want to work.Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:Fortunately I went to undergrad in one of the top three markets where I'd like to practice.YankeesFan wrote:I wouldn't go to either expecting to leave NC, but I say Wake has more mobility, just out of the fact that a large percentage of the class leaves NC. About 10% of both classes end up in NYC/DC combined.
Its really not a good move to go to a regional school in NC if you want to work in NYC/DC/BOS
You would be better off at F/BC/BU/GW

For whatever reason, it looks like Emory also does better than the NC schools in the northeast / mid-atlantic. Worth considering?Nova wrote:About 10% of both classes end up in NYC/DC combined.

Retake and go to a school that actually matches your aspirations.

Both are decent options if you want to work in NC. Both are pretty terrible if you want to work outside of NC.

Re: Wake Forest or UNC: For East Coast Mobility?
From what I've read, Wake sends more people out of state and UNC tends to do do a little better in the home market (but that could be because of the larger class size). So to answer your question, I think Wake would give you more geographic flexibility. However, be ready to not make it out of the immediate region; and the COA between the two should probably be a much larger factor than the small difference in geographic flexibility.
Disclaimer: 0L quite possibly headed to Wake.

Actually, in 2012 both schools placed 46% into NC. Their overall LST scores are pretty equivalent. Wake might send a few % more out of state but it seems rather marginal.

All else equal I'd probably go with UNC because Chapel Hill >>>>>>> Winston-Salem.
