What about UF?
Over the last few months I've been trained to think that I must go to a T14.
What about UF though?
Yearly Tuition: Resident, $14,227
My GI Bill alone will cover this
and I'm entitled to this: http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/pdcgi/bah/bahsrch.cgi
I'd basically be getting paid to go to law school.
As far as employment opportunities go what do you all think about UF? (Don't provide me to a link to LST)
Lately I've been considering the possibility of being a JAG. Another 18 years of the military and I can retire for good. I find that appealing. Really though- I think I want to sell my soul to a big corporate firm and make loads of money.
What I don't find appealing is going to a T14 and being in 200k of debt.
A strong part of me wants to go to school in New York and pretend to be somebody like Harvey Specter or Mike Ross once I graduate.
Do you all see my dilemmas?

Re: What about UF?
WTF is with all the UF threads lately. I don't understand it.
Do you want to work in Florida and/or the JAG? Then going to UF gives you a decent chance and will be even less than free. Not a lot to lose.
Do you want to go to NYC and pretend to be Harvey Spectre? Then kill yourself, because biglaw is a soulsucking horror nothing like Suits. But if you want to do it anyway, UF gives you zero chance. A T14 gives you some chance, and would not leave you 200k in debt with the GI bill, I think. Especially if you got merit scholarships.
Anyway, UF is a good shot at working in FL or for JAG. It's not a bad option. Go Gators.

Re: What about UF?
Tuition at Florida has risen to over $22k/year for residents and $41k/year for nonresidents. Also, I'm not an expert on this, but aren't there programs that would make attendance for you free at any state school (including Michigan, Virginia, or Berkeley)? JAG and other Fed jobs are pretty difficult to get, and don't delude yourself into thinking you'll be the only former service member out there hunting for the job and it'll just happen for you.

Unless there's something special to you about Florida, there are a lot of higher-ranked schools (including more than half of the T14) with better prospects that are free or nearly free using the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program.louierodriguez wrote: What I don't find appealing is going to a T14 and being in 200k of debt.
Check out craigsan18's excellent spreadsheet here.

He might want to become Patrick Bateman. Let him go for corporate work in NYC.Cicero76 wrote:WTF is with all the UF threads lately. I don't understand it.

That sounds like an awesome deal if you want to work in FL. But if you don't, then as others have said, look for cheap t14 options.

Not sure if you're joking, but if you're serious, you should know that Suits is about 1% reality and 99% intro scene to a softcore porno.louierodriguez wrote:A strong part of me wants to go to school in New York and pretend to be somebody like Harvey Specter or Mike Ross once I graduate.

Are you from Florida? Do you want to work in Florida forever? Can you get a large tuition discount? Are you OK with working in bumbf*ck nowhere for 40k a year? If your answer to all of these is yes, go for it.

Coming here for free is solid if you aren't looking for biglaw and want to work in Florida.
