Where should I apply?

Post by drawstring » Sat Sep 21, 2013 5:21 pm

Let's say my stats are 4.15 GPA and 170 LSAT and I can apply to 8 schools. I don't want to apply to schools that I'd have only a tiny chance of getting into, but maybe a few applications to reach schools.

Do you have that LSAT?

Sign up for CRS and you'll get fee waivers to almost all schools outside of HYS(B). This means you can apply to way more than 8 schools for much lower cost (no app fee, only the $21 transcript fee from lsac.)

With those numbers, you have a decent chance at every school other than Yale. Don't sell yourself short. I would apply to the entire T13 if I were you unless debt is no factor, in which case I'd do Penn, UVA, HYSCCN.

I am practice testing at 174 and haven't scored lower than 170 in my last 23 tests. I am low on money though and if I get a 170 (or even a 171) I think my chances at the top schools like Yale and Harvard might not be good enough to warrant spending money on an application, so I want to know which schools would be worth an application given my financial situation and assumed numbers.

Thanks for the info on waivers, and I'll look into that now.

Even with a 170 you have a chance at Stanford and Harvard. Break out the credit card and at least apply there. If you do really well on the LSAT you can skip apps to some of the lower part of the T-14. Keep studying hard; if you are already testing in the mid-170's you have a decent chance to push 180.

Come back with a real LSAT score. This site is full of people who wrote things like this and then ended up with a 165 on gameday. In the meantime, play around with LSN and myLSN.

Of course I'll come back with a real score. I just want to be better prepared for what to do if I hit that range, and I'm better off because of the responses provided.
