Emory vs Notre Dame vs Alabama vs Washington and Lee
GPA: 3.35 LSAT: 165
I want to go to Biglaw but from what I've read so far it doesn't seem very plausible with my current choices so thinking about retake.
Emory: 72K
ND: 60k
Alabama: 90K
W&L: 90K
I am wondering if I should retake and try to get into t14. Also where my possible destinations are if I break 170

Is that how much it costs, or how much your scholarship will be?

You will be able to go to UVA at sticker or Gtown/NU(if you have some WE) if you break 170 with a possible small scholarship.
Is that the total cost to attend each school or per year? Where are you from/where do you want to work?
How were you PTing on the LSAT/ how did you study?

that's the amount of scholarship I will be receiving over the 3 years. my parents are covering my living expense. So I will owe roughly( just guessing) 60k for emory, 15k for bama, 45k for W&L, and 72k for ND.sinfiery wrote:You will be able to go to UVA at sticker or Gtown/NU(if you have some WE) if you break 170 with a possible small scholarship.

I only got to study the LSAT for about a month while taking maximum # of hours my senior year. I did a lot of PT's but I was always rushed and had to do practice tests between classes or after I was finished with my hw after midnight. I just really regret not spending a summer or a few months into really getting the basics.
I scored anywhere from 162-174 on my PTs, but probably averaged out to around 167. I wasn't really sure the 2 points was worth retaking for.

If your goal is biglaw anywhere, retake. With your parents paying for COL, the.debt amount at a t14, even at sticker, should be manageable. And you may receive a scholarship too. Also, given how you've studied, you have a good potential to improve.
If you want a firm job in Alabama or Emory or wherever ND is, that seems like a good price for the ~20% chance.

thanks for your input. I've already committed to a school, but it seems like I am going to retake and hope for the best. hopefully some of these schools will take me back if I fail. Also, do you know how being denied at a school one cycle affects the chances of admission for another cycle?sinfiery wrote:If your goal is biglaw anywhere, retake. No impact at all as far as shown. Goodluck on the LSAT and don't be afraid to retake a third time if it comes to it.

You need to actually sit and figure out how much this venture will cost you and you also need to study for the LSAT the right way.
Retake.

You're way off on those COA estimates. You're going to owe more than 100K for Emory and ND. If you just want biglaw, you need to retake.

OP's parents are covering COL, which I'm guessing accounts for the lower estimates.timbs4339 wrote:You're way off on those COA estimates. You're going to owe more than 100K for Emory and ND. If you just want biglaw, you need to retake.
I would re-take here, it definitely seems like there's a lot of potential left. But 60k debt for Emory and 72k debt for ND isn't terrible, but you can do better so why not?

Dunno enough about 'Bama to speak on that but def no to W&L.

Those are scholarship amounts. 150K - 60K =/= 72K even without factoring in the accrued interest or tuition hikes.cusenation wrote:OP's parents are covering COL, which I'm guessing accounts for the lower estimates.timbs4339 wrote:You're way off on those COA estimates. That's not at all responsive to timbs' point.

150 is a rough sticker cost of tuition without factoring in COL.cusenation wrote:timbs4339 wrote:Those are scholarship amounts. 150K - 60K =/= 72K even without factoring in the accrued interest or tuition hikes.cusenation wrote:OP's parents are covering COL, which I'm guessing accounts for the lower estimates.timbs4339 wrote:You're way off on those COA estimates. Retake for 170 and reapply if you want biglaw.
