Cornell at Sticker???
So I was just graced with an email from Cornell letting me know that I was accepted into their class of 2016 off the waitlist. It's the only T14 I've gotten into and, until now, was planning on going to BC with a $25k/year scholly (COA still over $100k). Is Cornell easily worth $75k more than BC? I feel like it's a no brainer given the options but I'd like to pick TLS's brain on this one.

If you want Biglaw and are willing to work in NYC, then yes, I think it's worth that much more.
Cornell or retake.
But you need to provide all of this if you want the best advice: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 1&t=206299

Bro, your profile says your numbers are 3.8/164. Retake that LSAT, get 170+, and you could be looking at Harvard, or Cornell with a great scholarship, not sticker.

Re: Cornell at Sticker???
I was in similar situation, in that I had 30K/year scholarship at BU, and I think it was $10K per year at Cornell, and I went with BU, even though I intended to get back to NYC. In retrospect, given my goals, I don't know if I would have made that same decision (but I can't say for sure whether things would have worked out anyway since I ended up transferring to CCN). Though the thought of Cornell at sticker is a bit scary.

A 3.8? For the love of all that is holy, please retake and enjoy HYS.Robespierre wrote:Bro, your profile says your numbers are 3.8/164. Retake that LSAT, get 170+, and you could be looking at Harvard, or Cornell with a great scholarship, not sticker.

I think you could easily score above 164. Are you a URM?

Re: Cornell at Sticker???
I no longer have a 3.8, I registered for some extremely difficult classes for my final two semesters before I learned that law schools only care about the hard number; I'm at a 3.6 now. And my practice tests topped out around 167ish with a few outliers, I really don't want to retake with the lower GPA when a marginal increase in my LSAT won't open that many more doors.PRgradBYU wrote:A 3.8? Re: Cornell at Sticker???
If you can't score above 167, then you should take Cornell over BU. The price difference is not enough to justify BU over a T13.
Just make sure you've been honest with yourself about the intensity of your preparation and whether there is still room left to grow.

Re: Cornell at Sticker???
This is misleading because BC's tuition is about 12K/year lower than Cornell's and it doesn't account for interest. This is what I got using the GULC calculator:teachmehowtoraji wrote:Is Cornell easily worth $75k more than BC?
BC COA: $148,341
Cornell COA: $285,937
That's a lot more than a $75K difference.
But I'm assuming you would still want biglaw to pay it off and Cornell has double BC's biglaw placement. So there's that.

Re: Cornell at Sticker???
OP is not a URM so he actually overperformed by getting into Cornell. If he can't break 167 in his practice tests, and his GPA is going to fall below Cornell's median, the chances he will get in next year are slim.
I wouldn't retake, if I were OP, if it meant having to try again from scratch next year.

That's the line of reasoning I was following; I'm shocked I got placed on reserve in the first place, let alone in off of it. And yeah, biglaw's always been the ideal option.

I guess I'll vote for Cornell then.teachmehowtoraji wrote:And yeah, biglaw's always been the ideal option.
You may want to send them the BC offer along with your financial aid documents. I've seen at least one person get a little aid off reserve after including a GW offer. Not sure if that's what did it or if it was need-based, and it was only 5K/year, but it doesn't hurt.

Re: Cornell at Sticker???
I agree with some of the above posters that a re-take would only really be worth it if you could clear a 167. How many re-takes do you have left? If you have two left then I think you should re-take and re-apply. That's two chances to clear 167 and open up cheaper/better options. A 3.6 is still solid. If you only have one re-take, then it's risker..It'll depend on how much more you can improve in one shot.
If you don't wanna take the risk of doing worse/not improving then Cornell is the better option here. At those debt levels you're gonna need BigLaw from both schools anyway and Cornell gives you a better chance at that.
(Congrats on the admit
