Illinois ($$$) or Minnesota ($$)
Hi all,
I need to make my final decision soon. I got offered 30k a year guaranteed from Illinois (in-state) and 24k a year guaranteed from Minnesota (out-of-state). I would like to be in Chicago long term, but have lived in Minneapolis in the past and do enjoy the city. I can't retake the LSAT. Thank you for your thoughts.

UIUC over Minnesota, not even close.

What would be cost of attendance at each?
Very similar options, choose on where you want to practice I suppose. If fairly equal, I guess Illinois wins because of cost.

If OP got into NU or U of C they should definately go there over these options. That is a no-brainer. Why would you say UIUC is so obviously better? It has less of a home market than Minnesota because Chicago is so saturated compared to Minneapolisdissonance1848 wrote:UIUC over Minnesota, not even close. If you want to work in Chicago then go to Illinois. Minnesota is a better school in a vacuum IMO, but not at the extra cost (unless maybe you are a minnesota resident) and want to practice outside of the twin cities

Chicago is a huge market and Minnesota is tiny. And Northwestern/U of C/ Michigan have people from Minnesota who go back. So it's not like UMN has no competition.Law Sauce wrote:If OP got into NU or U of C they should definately go there over these options. That is a no-brainer. Last year Illinois put nearly 2x as many students into big law. 18% vs. 10%.

Illinois is TTT. Go to Minnesota, at least they don't cheat the rankings.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The COA difference is 12k more at MN. I have to make my decision by next week. I think I will just if either is willing to go up with their offers.

A guy who wants to be in Chicago is choosing between Illinois and Minnesota at similar cost. Why do you think Illinois is getting so much love?PRgradBYU wrote:Lots of random UIUC love here...
