last minute midwest t30
Help me choose.
I'm taking the June LSAT but since there is a small possibility that I might not score as high I probably should pick a school to reserve my seat.
Also willing to negotiate for more money if possible
Viable options: (total COA-total scholarship over 3 yrs if paid in cash / if borrowing, debt at graduation)
WUSTL - 100k / 120k
UIUC - 91k / 110k
ND - 126k / 153k
UMN - 91k / 110k
grew up in Illinois (family)
some ties in Chicago, some in NY
want to work in private
would like to live in California some day
+no ip background, useless major, no job because I stupidly quit when I got my first acceptance letter.
So yes retake/reapplying is possible, but going this year would be convenient though.

So....are you paying for these schools with cash or are you taking out loans?jad0re wrote:Help me choose.

I'll be able to pay for my first year at certain schools but will probably turn to gradplus for the rest.
So my total debt will be slightly less than those numbers.

I would hold a seat at WUSTL or UMN, although I'm leaning more WUSTL because of your Illinois ties. ND isn't worth the extra money, but a few extra thousand for WUSTL or UMN over UIUC is worth it IMO.
If you're content staying in the Midwest, there are definitely more reckless decisions than either WUSTL or UMN at less than six figures of debt. Basically, WUSTL if you want the lower Midwest, UMN if you want Minnesota, but don't get your hopes up on Chicago from either school.

I voted for Notre Dame. Good college football. Hot girls. Transportation to Chicago. Come on now, you'll have a BLAST there!

I think WUSTL seems like a good option for you. It seems pretty logical at this point just because of your ties to Illinois and it has a good ranking. Maybe a higher LSAT in June could net you some extra $ there.

I work with a girl from there. She's HOT. Do your COA totals include cost of living (rent, food, gas, etc.)?

I voted WUSTL because I think it offers you the best deal in the context of your career goals and geographic preferences, but I think you should strongly consider UIUC because I think it's the more secure option. UIUC has strong placement in Chicago/Illinois and your ties will only help. Yes your ties could help you get back to Illinois/Chicago from the other schools, but they cost more. If you're truly dead set on leaving the area then WUSTL but if you think that you might want a more secure shot at illinois/Chicago then UIUC.
Good luck!

Since I took the numbers from the school websites, I think so.North wrote:LOL.jad0re wrote:no job because I stupidly quit when I got my first acceptance letter.

Well now I come to think of it, WUSTL might be slightly more expensive since I hear that place is pretty rough and if I end up going there, I'd have to get a gated place with a garage so some idiot doesn't steal/break into my car. Driving to school everyday will also jack up the costs (heavy SUV, go figure). This won't happen at ND or Minnesosta.
I withdrew over the weekend. No regrets. I'm not going without a full ride.cusenation wrote:I think you should strongly consider UIUC because I think it's the more secure option
Still undecided. I put down my deposit for WUSTL and ND though. Minn will be due next week
Thank you everyone for your advice and I'm looking forward to getting more from you guys.
Just out of curiosity, are people ITT mostly 0Ls or current students?

What are your numbers OP?
I want to know why you withdrew from UIUC, OP. You realize with ND that you would be paying 30-40k more for a school with the same placement power, actually less, if you want Chicago.
Retake and reapply. So yes retake/reapplying is possible

Agreed. This is a list of the big firms in Chicago and where they hired their associates from: --LinkRemoved--dissonance1848 wrote:What are your numbers OP?

Check out the associate totals at the top 9 Chicago firms:
Illinois- 85
Notre Dame- 54
WUSTL- 30
Minnesota- 5
Also, you mentioned living in California some day. Cali is Illinois' second biggest market, they sent 15 grads there from the class of 2012 http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school= ... s&show=ABA

Re: last minute midwest t30
I am in the "USNWR rankings don't matter" boat as much as anybody, but UIUC could be an exception to that rule. Their free-fall, the reasons behind their free-fall (scandal), and the lingering effects (lower student body quality) may have lasting effects on the school. I'm certainly not going to sit here and try to predict the future because I really have no idea how this will affect their job placement, but the school is more of a question mark than the others on this list.
If OP truly is Chicago or bust, then retaking for Northwestern/Chicago is about the only credited move. That market has been straight up slaughtered in the past 5-6 years and there are no schools outside the T14 that give a great shot at it. If OP is more flexible to other markets in the Midwest, then I think WUSTL wins this.
