nyu vs penn. Forum

hi there, i've been incredibly lucky to get in to both nyu and penn but none of them offered me any money. fortunately my parents are paying the entire expense so i would not be taking any loans. my goals are nyc biglaw. i realize nyu probably places better in v10 but penn has overall higher placement power? so does it come down to whether i feel like risking it for v10?

Well, I'd visit both schools and see which one you like better. They both place extremely well in NY. Wherever you're happier and more productive is where you should go. I must say, Penn's placement numbers are impressive. NYU has that NY edge. Tough call OP.

this is what really grinds my gears, because both schools are generally the same in placement power but nyc have that rough edge in v10. to be honest i don't give a fuck where i end up in school as long as i have a biglaw job out of school because the thought of not having one after having parents paying the entire expense would be a reasonable cause for suicide.

NYU and good grades will definitely land you BL in NYC. NYC is fun but comes with a COL that is pricy. Penn’s advantage might be their Ivy alumni network.

In your sitch I'd probably just visit both and pick the one I liked better rather than try to split too many hairs over tangible differences between NYU and Penn.

Whichever is cheaper or throws more money your way. I'm at Penn, but both are basically the same in terms of placement power. Above median at either will get you NYC biglaw.
