If you absolutely want DC I'd probably lean towards UChi but I honestly think it's close to a tossup between UChi and UVA.

strike columbia off your list. It's not worht $60k more than NYU or Chicago.

I voted UVA, but you could make a strong case for Chicago or NYU. Like the last poster said, Columbia shouldn't even be a consideration when you have that much $ from peer schools.

Personally, I'd be inclined to go UVA. Gotta factor in the high COL in big cities.

FWIW, Chicago has a surprisingly low COL, the difference between Charlottesville and Chicago is pretty small.Presidentjlh wrote:Personally, I'd be inclined to go UVA. Gotta factor in the high COL in big cities.

I think Chicago is worth an extra 30K (+interest) over UVA. At UVA, you better be above median to feel safe. Uchi because of its slightly better placement and smaller class gives you a little more breathing room. Plus UVA's grading system and preselect OCI system suck and make it even more risky.

Re: Which school?
I'd probably pick whichever of Chicago and UVA you like more. NYU's not a bad choice either, but I believe Chicago's enough cheaper that I'd take it over equal money at NYU (but I haven't looked at this year's COA numbers and I'm a 2L at Chicago, so take that for what it's worth).
I'd also negotiate with both Chicago and UVA if you haven't yet.

My general belief is that UChi is at least marginally better than NYU outside of NYC. Since you want DC, I'd lean that way.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:Why so many chicagos over NYUS?

Re: Which school?
Well, Columbia can be easily crossed off, since the scholarship differential with NYU doesn't make the choice sensible. Among the remaining 3, I'd likely go with UVA if DC is your goal. They are close to DC, have solid connections there, you get the biggest scholarship, lower COL, etc.

Plus it's probably up to 5K cheaper per year after COL

You should just visit UVA + Chicago and pick whichever you like better. I don't think anybody can blame you for picking one over the other.

Re: Which school?
This. It's probably actually $50,000 (20+20+10) if you aren't doing public interest. Chicago, IIRC, doesn't do the "we reduce 3L grants because you can afford it" thing, while NYU and CLS both do.JamMasterJ wrote:there is no 60k scholly at nyu
Honestly I'd probably go to Chicago here. Even if you live on the north side, Chicago is surprisingly cheap for a major city (I'd guess Hyde Park is even more so), and Charlottesville is surprisingly expensive, I guess because the school is so big relative to the size of the town that demand for housing is high.
I'd put NYU in the mix if you'd rather be on the east coast. If you have no affinity for the east coast except for DC then forget it. Keep in mind, though, that DC biglaw will be tough to crack from any of these schools, so you do need a backup plan.

Re: Which school?
I'm leaning towards either nyu or Uva. Chicago seems too cold for me. Between those two where should I go. Can't decide!!!! I felt more at home at UVA but nyu seems like it has much better employment and more opportunities in the city

For DC, do UVA. The grads that place in VA might as well be considered DC. This is their market.

Re: Which school?
I voted UVA because for me it would be between Chicago and UVA. UVA has a lower COL (even if marginally so), you will graduate with less debt and you QOL will be so much higher at UVA (UChi sucks at fun lol)
