GULC $135,000, T10 WL, Retake
So I know this seems premature but I have a substantial job offer on the table that I have a month to respond to.
Here are my current options (pre-negotiation)
-Lewis and Clark (local): $28,000 a year with 2.65 GPA stipulation
-WUSTL: $35,000 a year no stips
-BU Public Interest Scholar $35,000 a year, $4,000 summer stipends for PI work
-Georgetown
-WLs at Chicago, UVA, Penn and Duke
-Still have not heard from NYU but likely waitlist with this long of under review
-Take this new job which would help me pay off all my undergrad debt in one year & retake the LSAT in June and reapply in the fall
Should I ride out the WLs? What are my chances of getting off the WLs this cycle?
My dream career path: http://www.hopesboy.com/author/index.html
All of my softs are around this topic and the work I have done in that area thus far.
My back-up career path: Criminal Prosecution
Region: I have never left the west coast but I entirely open to moving ANYWHERE.
Please let me know what you think. I promise to not respond with whining about a retake.
Edited: 3/19/2013---Thank you everyone for your input, I actually just received a nearly full tuition scholarship to Georgetown with all seat deposits waived so that is where I think I will be attending--

Re: T1 $105,000, GULC Sticker, T10 WL, Retake
WUSTL and BC aren't bad at all given your goals, especially that $105K no-stip option at WUSTL.
But if you've got the stomach to study again and wait a year, breaking 170 gets you similar scholarships at T14 with your GPA. Which as you probably know, opens up more options.

Your GPA screaaaams June retake. Like this guy said, crack 170 and you'll get substantial $$ at T14's and also probably change those WLs into admits

Defintely retake in June. Retaking in June can get you off WLs this cycle.
I was in a similar situation as you last year (sticker GULC v 105k/full rides at T30s).
IMO, BC/WUSTL with 105k is a safer bet than GULC at sticker.

I am surprised that you got so many T14 WLs. With those numbers I would think you would snag at least one.
It probably wouldn't kill you to take BU/WUSTL @ 105k but you already seem open to retaking anyway and it has enormous potential for you considering you have a 3.9 and you're already at a 166 so you don't need to make a very big improvement in score to get much better options.

I would take job/retake... but also, couldn't you officially defer g-town by a year? That way even if you don't want to go there after a better lsat score, you don't have to stress about getting into at least one t-14

Honestly what was your study plan? Five points and you're in at a lot of the T14. Ten and you'd have a shot at HYS with that GPA.Rory19 wrote:So I know this seems premature but I have a substantial job offer on the table that I have a month to respond to.

Re: T1 $105,000, GULC Sticker, T10 WL, Retake
Can you defer and still apply to other schools? I thought that was strictly forbidden?
My study method consisted of exposure alone, 8 practice tests over three months. I would do it very differently and go with the manhattan individual section resource guides. My score was consistent across sections so I would need to improve in every area but I think with focused training I could increase.
This new job would be a significant move to the government sector of child advocacy and a substantial pay raise. I currently work in nonprofit child advocacy with 2 years work experience.

And AFAIK, you can not defer and apply to other schools.

I redact my earlier sentiment regardnig WUSTL/BC being good choices.
Absolutely retake.
You obviously have a good aptitude for the test, some intense studying with good materials should almost certainly help you break 170.

Absolutely classic job/retake situation. Good luck.

It would be insane not to retake. If you can get four/five points you are looking at significant money for T14, and creeping into HYS territory.

Couldn't agree more. I often wonder what goes on in someone's head who can put in four years of diligent work and not be troubled to put in 10-15 hours a week for a few months to get $150,000 from T14.John_rizzy_rawls wrote:Rory19 wrote:My study method consisted of exposure alone, 8 practice tests over three months.![]()

Re: T1 $105,000, GULC Sticker, T10 WL, Retake
-Deposit at WUSTL/BU
-Don't withdraw from any Waitlists
-Retake in June.
Or just withdraw from all and retake in October if you think need more time to adequately prep.
If you do better in June, you can leverage more money from WUSTL/BU or you can withdraw with the confidence that you'll have better options next cycle or you can get off T14 waitlists with scholarship. If you do worse, then you have options.
Start prepping for LSATs now so you can gauge whether or not you can be ready by June. If not, then just shoot for October test.
FWIW I took a year off and re-took. Yielded significantly better results and taking a year off was great for me WE-wise. PM if you want more details/study tips

GULC at sticker is a bad idea. I'd say BU or retake.

Negotiate with WUSTL using your BC scholly and your GULC acceptance. Then negotiate BC. BC is probably a better option if they're equal.
Retake is probably your best option.
ETA: Especially given your lack of prep. Retake is the best call.
