Univ of Idaho or Gonzaga?
I just got accepted to the Univ of Idaho and Gonzaga Univ.
Does anybody have any insight or advice on the two schools? Any pros and cons would be helpful!
Thanks!!

Moscow's a cool little town and Idaho's tuition is less than GU, esp. if you're in state. I think employment prospects a bit better (but still not very good) at GU tho.

Where do you want to work?
Neither schools are particularly good.
Gonzaga: http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school=gonzaga
Idaho: http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school=idaho
If you can go to them for free/near-free then maybe they'd be worth it.

Ideally would love to work in California. Thanks for the site, it's pretty helpful!Bronck wrote:Where do you want to work?

I was also checking Santa Clara, San Diego and San Francisco employment stats from the site you mentioned and was surprised how low their employment scores are!! They were all lower than Idaho and Gonzaga.

Unfortunately neither Gonzaga nor Idaho will get you to California. California is an extremely saturated market -- YHS, Berkeley, the T14, UCLA, USC, etc are all above those schools for priority.nikkiblast wrote:Ideally would love to work in California. Have you maxed out your retakes? What's your GPA? If you want to work in California, you should shoot for UCLA/USC with $$ at least. I suppose UCD or UCH w/ $$$$$ wouldn't be a bad option either.

Do not go to Gonzaga or Idaho if you do not want to work in Eastern Washington or Idaho.

Unfortunately, all of these schools have pretty atrocious job statistics. Unless you 1) have a massive scholarship, 2) are from the area, and 3) want to work in the area, I would not advise going to any of these schools. The majority of students at these schools wind up unemployed or vastly underemployed, and there is a real probability that the average student there will never work as a lawyer. Scary stuff.nikkiblast wrote:Ideally would love to work in California. Thanks for the site, it's pretty helpful!Bronck wrote:Where do you want to work?

I don't mean this insultingly at all, but it sounds like some more research and deliberation is in order for you. If you're just now discovering how bad Santa Clara, San Diego, and San Francisco place, then you clearly have a lot of learning to do about the current state of the legal market and the riskiness of the investment. This is going to be the biggest career and financial investment you will ever make, so make sure you do your due diligence and fully understand the debt/risk you are taking on before you pull the trigger. Fortunately, you've found two of the best resources around for doing this: LST and TLS.
I'd recommend sitting out a year or two, retaking the LSAT, and figuring out whether this is what you want to do.

Maybe I should have said it earlier, but I'm not going to be retaking the LSAT.

Re: Univ of Idaho or Gonzaga?
You are looking at going to schools with bleak job prospects in markets you don't want to work in and you would rather pay $200,000 to do that than sit out a year and retake the LSAT for a chance at actually acheiving your goals?nikkiblast wrote:I've already taken it twice and I want to go to law school this upcoming September.francesfarmer wrote:Why won't you be retaking the LSAT?nikkiblast wrote: Thanks for your suggestions!

Re: Univ of Idaho or Gonzaga?
Avoid Gonzaga like the plague... I've heard they section stack and lots of people lose their scholarships. I think Gonzaga would be perfectly cromulent if your scholarship has no stips, but it takes a special sort of idiot to pay $35,000 a year or whatever sticker is at GU.
Only go to Idaho if you're paying in-state or less and would be okay working in Rupert, ID. Moscow also sucks, so there's that.
Seriously though, law school is terrible choice. I'm at slightly better/less expensive school than these two (I do love my school though) and I still sometimes regret it.
If you're absolutely dead set on law school this year, throw out some last second apps to public T2s and TTTs where in-state tuition MAY be a possibility... get your offers back from each and negotiate scholarships with all of them. Only go if you can get your tuition down to under $15,000 and be fully aware that ending up with a job paying somewhere between $35,000 - $50,000 a year starting out would be a success. Also, you're going to be working in the region that the school places in, so be ready to live in MT, KS, NE, ID, WY, etc..
Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Just for the record, for students entering in 2011 who did not withdraw after 1L, 156 received a conditional scholarship. 40 of them had the scholarship reduced or eliminated after 1L. http://www.law.gonzaga.edu/financial-aid/scholarships/ineptimusprime wrote:I've heard [Gonzaga] section stackand lots of people lose their scholarships.
Note, too, that 156/176 students received a scholarship that year. Numbers aren't out on this year's crop of 1Ls.

Now that I'm accepted to Miami, I would love to stay there. I prefer warmer climatesnickb285 wrote:Miami's not going to get you to California either: http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school= ... b=location
And the employment numbers are similar: http://www.lstscorereports.com/?school=miami
Retaking is TCR.
