T14 Travel Stipends

Has anyone has any success negotiating higher travel stipends at T14 schools? I want to visit some east coast schools but it's going to be a grand just to fly there and back for my wife and I, not to mention all the rental cars, hotels, gas, etc. to get around the eastern seaboard.

They won't pay for your wife at all for airfare or even if you're staying in a hotel with her (AFAIK, I know Michigan explicitly says they won't subsidize their hotel rate if you have anyone staying with you).

I too have tried to negotiate because I would have to fly from Oregon and round trip flights alone are $400+ but to no avail.
