DU Dean Pleads With Prospective Students- Cites Cooley

Lots of golden nuggets. Personal fav, DU Dean completely forgets to account for COL whilst at DU, and then immediately states that the average salary from DU is 70k. Full of win.

This of course means that 55% of all people licensed to practice law in Colorado will be able to do so, and those from DU will be competing with CU-Boulder grads, T14 grads, and a handful of other out-of-state grads, but that's okay, because they have a "strategic plan designed to produce practice-ready lawyers" and also "The world is becoming ever more complex," so don't even worry about it man.
100% agree. The theme of the "scholarship" was -- so, like, don't even worry about it, man.

I personally enjoyed this:
While some critics scoff at jobs that do not require bar passage, many law school graduates seek and enjoy such jobs. Even during the boom years, when law graduates had fewer constraints, roughly 16% selected jobs for which bar passage was not required.
Emphasis mine.

And 2011 Denver Law grads had an average salary of $70,922. Using a similar adjustment to the one used by NALP to account for reporting bias at the high end of the salary scale, 2011 Denver Law grads had an average adjusted salary of $66,713.[26] All of these figures are substantially higher than the $56,887 salary required to justify an investment in law school.
Only 37% of grads reported a salary at Denver law

Very dishonest to talk about average salaries even if you use the NALP adjustment.

Wow. Just fucking wow.

So they know about the more reliable statistics that directly contradict these arguments, and are just willfully choosing not to include them in these little pitches, right?

Guess all the data we've seen is just part of some elaborate myth. Thanks Dean Katz!

What awful, awful people.

This is so horrifically funny that I don't even know how to react. And frustratingly, I can't explain how lulzy it is to my non-TLS friends.

Its like, maybe he is a manchurian candidate, taking down DU from the inside. Why else would he do that? The information was so bad that only Cooley said it?

I really wish they would change the rule that you can't post these articles in the "_____ School of Law Class of 2016" threads. I can understand banning pointless trolling, but we should be allowed to link to specific articles of each school's deans when they are busted lying, etc.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

The unfortunate thing is that someone on the fence about going to law school will read this and convince themselves that going to DU at sticker is a great idea.

Pretty disgusted by this article cited for #4:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/shawnoconno ... e-money/2/

"Law School costs $150k + $135k in lost wages." This assumes:

1) no interest on the debt
2) having a job or being able to get a job that makes that much and maintain it over three years.

"But a lawyer makes $4 million over his career, trumping the cost of an education." This assumes:

1) Going to law school nets you a job as a lawyer.
2) I guess we can agree to disagree, but I don't see how 10% of your lifetime career earnings is a small number. And with the average age of law school students being about 26, that means these lawyers will work until 70? Who plans to work until 70?

I'm tempted to write a letter to this guy or forbes magazine, but I doubt anything would come of it. Who reads angry letters to the editor?
