Alabama law schools UA vs Cumberland

Post by harge008 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 1:28 am

I scored 164 on the LSAT my UGPA is 3.85 and my grad school GPA is 4.0.

Last year I was wait listed at UA. My question is should I hold out for another shot at UA or take a scholarship at Cumberland or even Jones just to get a chance at the Bar in a few years?

Does the school really matter in this job market? Does it matter enough to fork over 100k or more vs free tuition at a less prestigious school?

Yes.

If you had a 165, Alabama would probably offer you close to a full ride. Retake.

You know, you may have a shot at Vandy. If you retake and hit a 167+ then Vandy is a big possibility as well as a few T14s. If you want to be in the south, this isn't a bad option.

Vandy probably isn't a good option because she/he won't get much money. Whereas Bama could end up being quite cheap. Top 14 is definitely not a good idea if the OP wants the South. At least not at the debt that would be required.

Retake. I know it's a pain, but it could be the difference between a full ride at a school that will barely guarantee you an unpaid internship with local politicians (which is what all the Cumberland/Jones grads I know are doing) and a full ride on your way to an actual paying job.
If you need a tutor in the area, PM me. I'd be happy to help.

Did you consider EDing UVa? They seem to fill their entire class with either 170+/3.0 or 165-/3.85+. They seem to prefer people with LSATs in the low 160s to have a 3.9+, but you can throw your hat in the ring. I would recommend retaking before UVa ED, though. Five more points and you will have some T14 options as well as big scholarships at places like UA. Ten more points and you'd have a 95% shot at H and shots at YS, not to mention $$ at other T14s.
