Is Pepperdine/Maymount worth going? Even with a full ride?
I would like to go out west, and I have numbers that are competitive at USC/UCLA (3.8/170), but I am curious as to if a school like Pepperdine or Marymount would be worth going to if I get a scholarship that really minimizes my debt after school.
I should also add, unlike many on this board, I really don't have a desire to go into biglaw; many of you may roll your eyes at me, but if you can believe it, working for a huge firm may not fit with everyone.
So, if I have nothing but living expenses to pay off, would a school like Pepperdine be worth it? I'm just curious, so please don't just reply with "retake" or "Why would you even consider this"?
Thanks

Your numbers are competitive for the t14 with money. You should get very generous scholarships from at least one of USC or ucla.

This. You should get nearly a full-ride at one of USC/UCLA.top30man wrote:Your numbers are competitive for the t14 with money. You should get very generous scholarships from at least one of USC or ucla.

I think this is probably too generous. But yeah, you should easily get accepted at both.
To answer your question, yes, I think Pepperdine is worth it at full scholly--but if you can get lower T14 with a bit of money or USC/ULCA with some money that may be preferable depending on your goals.

Loyola and Pepperdine usually have less than desirable stips on their scholarships, so I wouldn't say they're worth it even with a "full scholarship." Enjoy T14 or USC/UCLA.

Yeah, LMU/Pepperdine have stips. You might try negotiating with them to get them waived, though.
Not sure how likely that is, but hey.

So you don't want big law, but you presumably want some kind of full-time job practicing the law.
According to Law School Transparency, using the employment information Pepperdine collects, only 41.9% of Pepperdine's class of 2011 are known to have full-time, long-term, JD required jobs - the kind of job you want. Curiously, the number is exactly the same for Loyola Marymount.
So, even if you get a full-ride:
1. There is a good chance you will lose the scholarship for your 2L and 3L years; and
2. You have about a 4/10 chance of getting a job worth having.

Fine. 2/3+ at both.Lawquacious wrote:moneybagsphd wrote:This. You should get nearly a full-ride at one of USC/UCLA.top30man wrote:Your numbers are competitive for the t14 with money. You should get very generous scholarships from at least one of USC or ucla.

You have outstanding stats and will get large scholarships to USC/UCLA. Forget Loyola and Pepperdine. Not even close to worth it.

I don't know dude. You may be right, but not so sure he will get much more than half scholly at either, nevermind 2/3+ at both. With a couple more point on the LSAT I'd be inclined to agree with you though.

based on my cycle, i'd be willing to bet he'd hit right around 2/3, if not better with the dropping applicants/170+ scorers.Lawquacious wrote:
