Maryland --> Hastings/Davis/Loyola (CA)
Are any of these considered lateral transfers?

Probably all of them except Davis.

why? maryland is a better school than loyola, and davis isn't really better than hastings, basically maryland lateral transfers to davis/hastings, and actually downgrades to loyola

Thanks - it would be purely for geographic reasons.

Jah'rakal, you're losing your touch. That post was actually based in reality.Jah'rakal wrote:why? maryland is a better school than loyola, and davis isn't really better than hastings, basically maryland lateral transfers to davis/hastings, and actually downgrades to loyola

what u mean dude, i am just trying to be helpful as always. don't limit urself to loyola though, if u r willing to pick schools in both norcal and socal, then don't forget pepperdine, uci, usc, etc.Yukos wrote:Jah'rakal, you're losing your touch. what's wrong with pepperdine? it's on par with loyola if OP thinks Loyola as a targetYukos wrote:There's the Jah'rakal we all know and love. Re: Maryland --> Hastings/Davis/Loyola (CA)
So: Loyola (LA)/Pepperdine would be transferring down (median+), Hastings would be about equal (30%+), UCI/Davis may be a slight transfer up (25%+), USC/UCLA would be a fairly serious move up (15%+), and Berkeley would be _________ (5%+). Is this about right?

If you go to Maryland though you can enjoy the great park right outside the law school!

Lateral in what sense? Maryland is a bigger deal in Maryland than the others are in CA. However, CA is a much larger market. In my opinion, the difference would be in the fringes - state law jobs (and other similar positions) would be easier to get from Maryland than the others due to a relative lack of instate competition.glowstix wrote:Are any of these considered lateral transfers?
Regardless, you would need top 15-20% (and possibly LR) at any of them to have a shot of big law barring anything special.

This is the only reason to make this move. You won't be able to get a job in CA from UMD, and you won't be able to get a job in MD from a non-T20 CA school. You should go to school where you want to practice.glowstix wrote:Thanks - it would be purely for geographic reasons.

OP dont go to law school expecting to transfer. especially if you're minimum 70+% of failing to do so (really even 85-90% chance of failing to do so if we're talking worthwhile schools) involves you being stuck in maryland when you want california. pick a Coast homie

Why? Davis has horrific employment numbers and a tution rate that increases at 10% a year.h2oplyer7 wrote:Probably all of them except Davis.
