Re: help! WUSTL vs. Emory
They're peer institutions. If you want the South, go to Emory.twirlycrly2 wrote:Just got off the waitlist at WUSTL and have been offered $28k/yr. Currently I'm committed to Emory with $22k/yr. (roughly $18k difference over the three years). I'm from TN and I'd ideally like to come back here or be somewhere in the south after school, which is what made Emory such an attractive option. I got to visit it, and I really liked the school and the area, but this waitlist acceptance and scholarship offer from WUSTL is really making me uncertain. I haven't been able to visit WUSTL, but I've heard its nice. Both are ranked relatively similarly and are fairly equal in distance from my home. help meeee!

Neither are great options at those prices, brother. You're gonna have to be biglawl or bust because you're looking at 150Kish in the hole at graduation.

WUSTL comes out to around 100k total COA, not including potential interest. Emory slightly higher.tfleming09 wrote:Neither are great options at those prices, brother. You're gonna have to be biglawl or bust because you're looking at 150Kish in the hole at graduation.
Leverage Emory using WUSTL scholarship. Does anyone know if WUSTL or Emory is better for TN? Rad, maybe?

Agreed. And neither place is a good bet for big law or bust.tfleming09 wrote:Neither are great options at those prices, brother. You're gonna have to be biglawl or bust because you're looking at 150Kish in the hole at graduation.

Non-discounted WUSTL is is 248K with interest, Emory is 253K. Did I miss something where he's not paying living expenses?
Also Emory would likely be better for the south, but not great for TN.

Re: help! WUSTL vs. Emory
any chance that Emory would negotiate after I've already committed? especially with their no-negotiating policy? I'm thinking slim to none, right?

Re: help! WUSTL vs. Emory
I have to make the exact same decision, scholarships and all. I was supposed to move to Atlanta on Wednesday and am suddenly very unsure. I'd love to hear some thoughts on which school is better, given no geographic preference after graduation and not a huge difference in debt.
And I tried to negotiate with Emory and they said they don't do that. oh well

Just from a standpoint of OWNING a market, you gotta go WUSTL. Then again, it's not the biggest marketnikkib wrote:I have to make the exact same decision, scholarships and all. Re: help! WUSTL vs. Emory
Correct answer: neither.
Emory only puts 3.2% of graduates in the East South Central (KY, TN, AL, MS). That's not a lot of people in TN.
WUSTL does even worse at 1.8% in the East South Central region.
If you want to work in TN, go to Vandy or UTennessee. (Vandy = 25%, UTenn = 75% in ESC)

Re: help! WUSTL vs. Emory
If you're ok with the South, take Emory over WUSTL. Emory puts 55%+ in the South while WUSTL puts less than 15%.twirlycrly2 wrote:I'd like to be in TN OR in the south. either one works for me.noleknight16 wrote:Correct answer: neither.

Is a retake for Vandy out of the question? I think that would be the best case scenario. However, Emory is pretty awesome despite what people say about it on TLS.

Re: help! WUSTL vs. Emory
If someone put a gun to your head and said choose, you should choose Emory. However, because no one has put a gun to your head, I would be reluctant to recommend either if you are taking out the COA (COA minus scholarship) in loans.
I don't think anyone on the planet would argue that WashU is better than Emory for TN or the South in general. However, Emory is certainly not worth $150K+ worth of debt (neither is WashU, for that matter).
