Tulane vs. Illinois
Hi guys, i'm stuck between Tulane and Illinois for this coming fall.
I was happy when I learned that Illinois accepted me off the waitlist, but then i realized they had fallen in the rankings from 23rd to 35th!! Wow... So apparently they were lying about their admission figures the whole time? Is Illinois in free fall, or is it still considered a top 10 public school?
Anyway, I am torn between these two schools. I want to end up practicing in most likely New York (yes I understand neither of these schools is located there) and working for a big law firm if i can. I am interested in business related law, and perhaps international as well.
Neither schools gave me money, but money isn't too much of a concern.
Which do you all think puts me in the best position to realize my goals? Forget location, weather, and money as factors for now.
P.S. I went to Vanderbilt undergrad, did very well, but didn't do so hot on the LSAT (159, freaking time killed me)
Thanks in advance for your input.

Why? Who's paying?dox wrote:Neither schools gave me money, but money isn't too much of a concern.
Neither, honestly.dox wrote:Which do you all think puts me in the best position to realize my goals? Forget location, weather, and money as factors for now.
It sounds like you have a high GPA to go with that 159. Retake and don't waste it when you could do better.dox wrote:P.S. I went to Vanderbilt undergrad, did very well, but didn't do so hot on the LSAT (159, freaking time killed me)

retaking is not an option.
if anything, i can transfer out after my first year..
who's paying? I am... I won the lottery last year so money is not an issue at all.

1) I'd bet it isdox wrote:retaking is not an option.

2) Probably not
3) If you won the lottery then just take the shortcut to models and bottles now, if you're joking and your parents are paying that's selfish unless they're loaded, if you're not worried about money because you're debt financing you're retarded.

Retake.
You have almost no chance of NYC with either of these schools.

Re: Tulane vs. Illinois
hahaha 9 posts and still not a single answer one way or another??
i dont wanna retake and I would not give my left nut to attend a T14 like most others on here would..
I'm strongly leaning towards Illinois, they gave me a small schollie, and no1 gave me anything except Brooklyn Law School around 25k.
I have a confession to make, guys. I didn't win the lottery, nor have I ever played. The truth is.... my parents are rich, b*tch!!!
Fleming, u wanna call me selfish because my parents are paying for school? You sound very bitter. Couldn't afford Harvard?

I would say Illinois because I am dying to go there (though I should probably sway you away from Illinois for my own benefit), but if you are dead set on NY and have no desire to work in the midwest, Illinois is not for you.

Re: Tulane vs. Illinois
Well, I've heard IL to NY is improving, but I've also heard that Tulane has surprisingly strong placement in NY. Not to say that it is objectively strong, but they do well giving their ranking and location. I heard that the tie is based in jews having to go there because ivies used to have quotas. Plus, they can be members of the cornell club.

And why did you rule out Brooklyn if you are so keen on NY.
I also read your other post, dont go to a school with transfer in mind, if you cannot envision yourself at a school for 3 years, its not the right school for you.

I'd just feel guilty about taking 200K from my parents, but if they can afford it, that's great. I, on the other hand have always had the white people problem of being too poor to pay cash for school but have too much money for need based aid.dox wrote:Fleming, u wanna call me selfish because my parents are paying for school?
