Fordham VS UCLA
I want to work on the east coast, but I know that UCLA's reputation is far better than Fordham. Where will I have better opportunity for east coast employment at a law firm.

How much money at each? Unless significantly more at UCLA I'd go fordham. Neither one is worth sticker.

Money is not the issue here. Both are at sticker, and I have the ability to pay for both. I see those statistics on UCLA job placement, with that being said, much of that is skewed because most UCLA grads want to stay on the west coast. Does the ranking difference and prestige difference of UCLA vs Fordham matter for a NYC, Boston, or DC firm when they look to hire, or do Fordham's relationships with NYC firms and other firms on the east coast outweigh the rankings difference between the two.

If you want NYC go to Fordham, if you want LA go to UCLA. It isn't rocket science, rankings aren't that important when it comes to regional schools.scram202 wrote:Money is not the issue here. 2008 OCI is in no way relevant.Nova wrote:Fordham OCI (2008): NY Law firms 129/ DC Law firms 25/ CA Law Firms 48

Different Question.... sorry if I am no where near as educated on this stuff as some of you other posters on here. If I was planning on attempting to transfer up to a better law school after 1L .... Figure top 7 for sake of argument... would being at a "better" school like UCLA matter as far as my application is concerned. Dont start lecturing me on how I need to be in the top 5% etc, etc, I know all of that, I am just curious on peoples toughts if it would make a difference if I was in that upper echelon.??

Whatever bro bro. Fordham has nearly 3 times as many NY Firms than CA Firms at OCI. UCLA has over 3 times as many CA Firms than NY Firms. That is the point.tedalbany wrote:2008 OCI is in no way relevant.Nova wrote:Fordham OCI (2008): NY Law firms 129/ DC Law firms 25/ CA Law Firms 48

UCLA is a good school but it IS a regional (plus) school period. Its rank will NOT help you get a job on the east coast and its location can hurt you in doing so. Frankly, Fordham's reputation and alumni network in NYC will trump UCLA all day every day in helping you get a job there.... In Boston or DC or Philly you are still close in NYC and you can network a lot easier......
For the East Coast Fordham would be the clear answer....

Take UCLA. National firms will dig deeper into UCLA 's class. You will have a greater chance of getting big law from UCLA. You can always lateral back to NYC.

Once you spend a few years in Cali, you won't want to go back to the East Coast.
You'll despise the East Coast "hurry up and wait" attitude.
