USC($$) vs UCLA ($$)
Looking for thoughts here, please.
USC wants you to deposit and withdraw from everyone else. UCLA doesn't. I love westwood, and hate south central. I'm looking at a ~$25k difference after COA factors between the two. Probably total debt of like ~150 (USC) to ~175 (UCLA).I've had no luck getting UCLA to match the USC scholly. I did feel like USC had a friendlier feel, but like I said, commuting and/or living in the area sucks. The loans are huge for each school, does it wash out at this level you think, like either one needs big law to pay off..so... yeah, thoughts?
Also, if there are UCLA kids lurking, do you feel like its real competitive at UCLA, or not so friendly?
Thanks!
Edit: UCLA matched USC, which makes over-all COA cheaper at UCLA (after making in-state on 2nd year I'm looking at ~130k loan). Guess that made it easy to let USC drop, thanks for your thoughts! If UCLA students have comments on the collegial, or lack thereof, atmosphere, I'd love to here about it.

They're the same school. I'm not sure if your strong preference for Westwood over South Central is enough to justify the 25k difference, but others can chime in. My initial thought is if you think you'll be much happier at UCLA, then yes. Regardless, you'll need biglaw to pay off that kind of debt.

at 8k a year you need to assess how unhappy you'd be going to USC each day vs how happy you'd be at UCLA. if you're uncomfortable the competitive difference to me would be worth more than 8k per yr.
personally with that weather, i could never be too unhappy.

If you hate south central/downtown so much just live in a nicer area and commute every day. There are plenty of nice places that aren't very far from USC. Use the money saved to live in one of those places.

This. I actually think that USC gives you access to nicer neighborhoods. Then again, I hate Westwood.chimp wrote:If you hate south central/downtown so much just live in a nicer area and commute every day. There are plenty of nice places that aren't very far from USC. A difference of $25,000 over three years should not be a significant factor in this decision, in my opinion.

This. Sounds like you would be happier at UCLA.CanadianWolf wrote:A difference of $25,000 over three years should not be a significant factor in this decision, in my opinion.

This, but neither of these schools is worth 150-175k to me...CanadianWolf wrote:A difference of $25,000 over three years should not be a significant factor in this decision, in my opinion.
