UVA $210K cost of attendance, UT $65K cost of attendance
I think I got off of the UVA waitlist based upon a very cryptic e-mail I got today from Jason Dugas ("call me on Monday so we can chat").
Factors:
1. Want to practice in Texas
2. Want Big Law
3. Husband has job offer in Austin
I think I've decided but I'm needy and want affirmation.

Did you really need to make a thread for this?

If you have to ask, you'll never know.

I just need people to talk me out of doing something crazy. There was about an hour this afternoon where I really felt like uva was the right call.

unless you get big money, Texas is the right call, especially knowing who you are and what you want

This is like the Choosing a Law School equivalent of making a What Are My Chances thread with no LSAT score.

You should tell Jason Dugas to buzz off unless he can make it rain.

Ask Jason Dugas for $150,000 on Monday. If he says no, I vote Texas.

I think this should be a pretty easy decision. Biglaw in TX will go a little deeper into UVA's class, but I really don't think that's worth ~150K.
FWIW: I chose UT ($$$) over UVA ($$). I went to UVA's ASW and really enjoyed my time there, but I decided to save money and stay close to family and friends. I have been incredibly happy with my decision so far. (Love austin, love the faculty here, really like my classmates, have 2L summer biglaw TX SA lined up (callbacks are a lot less hectic to do when it involves going to Dallas or Houston from Austin), and I saved over 50K by choosing UT over UVA.)

Spouse, desire for Texas biglaw, and wayyyy more $$ in all likelihood. Go to Texas.

Depends in part on how you feel about your husband. Agree that you should ask Virginia for a significant scholarship.

Are you on fucking crack? Don't go anywhere at sticker. Don't go anywhere that costs you $210k. For fuck's sake. Cannot believe people are still getting roped into this nonsense.

Best school in the 2nd largest state, with no real close competitors in state seems, and far away from where most t14 law grads want to practice, seems like a no brainer to me.emkay625 wrote:I think I got off of the UVA waitlist based upon a very cryptic e-mail I got today from Jason Dugas ("call me on Monday so we can chat").

I'm at UVA and it's great Charlottesville is a great town.
I've heard Austin is nice too. Hopefully it is, because that's where you'll be living for at least the next 3 years.

I wouldn't post this on TLS for a few reasons. What if he just wanted someone to talk to ? I'm sure it gets a little lonely around this time with all the students done with classes...

This. You have nothing to lose, especially since you know you'll go to Texas. Be courteous but determined and direct.Desert Fox wrote:Ask for 120K scholarships.
