Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
my bad...
3.0/159
scholarships:
each with $15,000
from Richmond, went to UVa, I want to do IP, I don't really care where I live because they're all far from home
I'd like to return to Richmond or VA at some point but that is not the end all be all
parents are paying for school-- so debt is not a factor
thanks guys!

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
None of these schools are going to give you a good chance at doing what you want to do, unfortunately. I'm from Pennsylvania, so I know a little about PSU, and central PA/Harrisburg kind of sucks. Actually, it doesn't kind of suck, it really sucks.
Did you apply to U of Richmond? Not a bad school for the area..

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
Yeah I posted that, but no one would really help me, so I'm hoping people can just vote and help me!!!
I don't want to spend $1500 going to Chicago Kent this weekend if it's not even worth my time. I'm just trying to get some info so that I make the best decision possible...

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
Im guessing you applied to U of Richmond and didnt get in? If you really want to be back in VA, then maybe you should hold out and try again for U of Richmond. Sorry i know you said retake isnt an option, but if you want Richmond, its worth it.
The schools you listed are all regional. Location is the biggest factor since cost is not an issue. Happy Vally, Lexington, and Chicago are worlds apart.

I'm waitlisted at Richmond. Definitely will go there if/when accepted.
So I shouldn't bother with either if I want to do IP?? I mean I don't really care about the city I'm in, just a job...

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
Yes, bdole2 you did! I really appreciate it, too.
My parents are just pressuring me to make a decision and I don't have a lot to go on. I feel like I'm just floundering.
Should I visit Chicago-Kent to see what it's like? Or is it worth it?

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
dont waste your money on visiting. its not worth your time.
Its only a year. Retake, bump your lsat up just a few points, and enjoy Richmond and being near home. I would not want to spend 3 years in Kentucky or central PA.

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
Please retake the LSAT in june and score atleast 161. That is Richmonds median. You would have a much better shot at getting off the WL if you did. I dont mean to be pretensious but i serously think you have nothing to lose by sitting for the lsat again.
Anyway,if that really isnt an option, I vote Kentucky. Be a big fish in a small pond.

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
I mean I'm not really super attached to Richmond. I think I want to eventually end up in Richmond, but my parents are retired and may move to FL in the next couple years, so it may not be worth me staying in Richmond after all.
I'm not really attached to any location, but I really want to know which school that I have gotten into would be the best choice.
bdole2 advised me that rankings don't really matter and I should go where I'm happiest, which was great advice when I had UK and PSU to choose from. Does Chicago-Kent change anything??

You said you had lived in Kentucky and have family in Pennsylvania. Do you have any ties to Chicago?

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
Not really, I have family that lived there a couple years ago, but they recently moved to Dallas (yes, still waiting on SMU).
So basically no ties to Chicago.
Thanks guys for the help, everything is appreciated

I probably wouldn't spend the money visiting Kent then. Chicago's legal market isn't doing well right now, and Kent is near the bottom of the food-chain.

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
If you're really only concerned about getting a job in IP, I would strongly suggest trying to retake. IP is going to be really really hard for you to get with your current school choices.
If you still refuse to retake for some random unknown reason that I can't imagine is actually good enough to throw away your shot at your dream job, then go to the school in the location you want to practice in most. Just know that if you go to Richmond, you will practice there. If you go to Chi-Kent, you will practice there. None of these schools have the portability to take you anywhere but the cities/states they are located in. You will not get, for example, an IP position in the Bay Area from any of them.

If I don't go to law school this year, then my parents won't pay for me to go.
I don't really know why they are so strict about it, but they think I am a "slacker" if I wait a year.
It sucks

Re: PLEASE HELP & VOTE
Your parents love you and want to see you succeed, I assume, given that they're willing to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars for your legal education. I would recommend sitting down with them very seriously to discuss why retaking and putting law school off for a year would be a good choice for you, and how/why they are putting you in a difficult position by issuing this ultimatum.kebUVA2012 wrote:If I don't go to law school this year, then my parents won't pay for me to go.

With that said, how much did you study for the LSAT? If you feel as though you've hit your peak (which I sincerely doubt), then perhaps a retake isn't the best plan. But I honestly think you could seriously improve your LSAT score and put yourself in a much better position to place in a well-paying IP job.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
