Championship round! Who should win, ASU or UIUC?
This will be my last thread before I make my choice, and I just wanted to see what others thought before doing so. After recieving letters back from ten schools I am down to UIUC and ASU. Currently, UIUC is about 80k total cost of attendance. I’m form Illinois and want to work in Chicago more than any other city. On the other hand, there is ASU at about 40k total cost of attendance, that is, if I can retain my scholarship. However, as stated above, I do not have ties to the area. Regardless, given the weather and anecdotes from Phoenix, I would be happy ending up there. Is one clearly better than the other, it is a toss-up, or are they both crap? All advice is welcome.

Would it change anyones' mind if UIUC was 100k?

I had a negotiation up in the air. From what I've read, if it were to have gone through I would be looking at 80k. So, the first post was a merely a hypothetical. Unfortunately, I am back at 100k. Can anyone elaborate why UIUC would be worth the extra 60k? Is it due to my ties to the area and my desire to work in Chicago that's motivating these answers or something else?bdole2 wrote:....why didn't you say 100k in the the first place?Husker-6432 wrote:Would it change anyones' mind if UIUC was 100k?

Umm... yes. If you go to Arizona State, you will never, ever, ever, work in Chicago or be able to get back to Illinois.Husker-6432 wrote:Can anyone elaborate why UIUC would be worth the extra 60k? Only 39 people from ASU are in Illinois, 20 in Chicago. If you want Chicago, I'd say UIUC.

...what does this mean? 39 people EVER that have graduated from ASU are currently practicing in Illinois? I wouldn't be surprised if this were true...but I don't think this information is readily available.Gail wrote:Only 39 people from ASU are in Illinois, 20 in Chicago. Still, UIUC or don't go.

I said readily available. I don't want to spend 90 seconds using Martindale's complex search queries.rad lulz wrote:You could run that search on Martindale.bdole2 wrote:...what does this mean? 39 people EVER that have graduated from ASU are currently practicing in Illinois?
