Re: $60k WUSTL vs $30k GW
Do you want to live in the Midwest? If so, WUSTL is a good choice. If you want to stay near where you are from, GW is a better choice. Neither school seems to be very portable.
I personally vote for WUSTL, but I'm currently there for undergrad and I love it and St. Louis and my beloved Cardinals, so I'm slightly biased.

Re: $60k WUSTL vs $30k GW
Ugh that is way too expensive for either of those schools. Job prospects at either of them don't justify that kind of debt and your CoA's don't even include the 7-8% interest that you accumulate while in school. If I had to, I'd take WUSTL since it's a chunk cheaper but that is really meh.
I think the real solution is to retake. Yeah you have a 2.9 dragging you down but you've got a shot at GULC/UVA/NU. Your 170 is just a tad too low for them. Why wasn't your UVA app ED? I think sticker at those schools makes more sense than 20k/year at WUSTL or 10k/year at GW.

Those are rare competitive jobs. Not really something you can count on as a backup option.hoos89 wrote:While I appreciate the sentiment aren't you ignoring options like LRAP and public interest loan forgiveness?

WUSTL - save lots of money, and do the DC program if you want to work in gov't/end up in DC.

If you're absolutely set on going to law school this year, WUSTL is going to be significantly cheaper. Not sure on job prospects. I would imagine WUSTL is more midwest focused.

That seems awful though. Do you really want to have to be a paper pusher at the DMV for 10 years just to get out of your loans when you've spent 3 years getting a JD?hoos89 wrote:Yes but unless I'm mistaken ANY government job qualifies for loan forgiveness, which would be the true backup option.

Re: $60k WUSTL vs $30k GW
I wouldn't go to either one at those prices. WUSTL wins between the two because of the significantly lower cost, but 140k is a ton of debt for a non-T14 school, especially one where you have no pre-existing ties. We do have the D.C. clinic if you're interested in going back out there, but you're probably going to need biglaw to make the investment worth it, so I'm not sure that clinic helps you much since OCI is 2L fall. LRAP and IBR are okay options if you can land a PI job, but those are competitive and often hire locally. I just don't see either school being a good idea at the price tag.

Go wherever is cheapest. Keep your debt down. Note that GW is also going to be more expensive due to COL.

gubmint employment is way down and likely to stay that way. wouldn't count on it. if you must go, WUSTL is the best option here.hoos89 wrote:Yes but unless I'm mistaken ANY government job qualifies for loan forgiveness, which would be the true backup option.bk187 wrote:Those are rare competitive jobs. Hoos - I have numbers similar to yours so I've looked at your LSN profile from time to time. Congrats on getting two T25s despite your GPA.
I think the others have a point that you're talking about a heck of a lot of debt for a non-T14. Think whether this is really the road you want to go down.
If it is, then you need to be more explicit about your career goals. You're from Va; is Va/DC your target market, or not? Is public interest your chosen career path, or not? If the answer to both is yes, I could see GW as a viable choice. It has way more placement clout in Va/DC than WashU, and that's where a ton of PI jobs are in any event. It might be worth taking on the extra debt for. You'd be maximizing your chances of landing something forgiveness-eligible in your target market.
