Hypothetical: Georgetown vs. UVA
Hello Everyone!
Yes, this is a hypothetical (I put it in the title as a courtesy to all you haters).
I have the opportunity to attend Georgetown this year. I also STRONGLY believe that I could get in to UVA if I applied early decision next year. After looking at the people accepted on lawschoolnumbers, I'm pretty sure I would be accepted too if I decided to wait it out (obviously this is the hypothetical part) and apply at the beginning of the next cycle.
My objective is Big Law in either NYC, or DC, or as a fallback option possibly living in the south. Does anyone have any advice on whether: A) UVA would be better than Georgetown for my goals, and B) if waiting a year to attend UVA is worth that advantage over Georgetown.
Thanks a lot!

UVa might be be slightly better for DC but probably much better for NYC. And certainly another year of waiting would help if the economy gets better. Plus, gives you an extra year to save/make money, as well as develop work experience which will make you a better candidate for OCI's.
You could just tell us your stats so that we could give you a better idea.

I know there's something in the wake of your smile.
I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yea.
You've built a love but that love falls apart.
Your little piece of heaven turns too dark.
Listen to your heart
when he's calling for you.
Listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do.
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why,
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye.
Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile.
The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea.
They're swept away and nothing is what it seems,
the feeling of belonging to your dreams.
Listen to your heart
when he's calling for you.
Listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do.
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why,
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye.
And there are voices
that want to be heard.
So much to mention
but you can't find the words.
The scent of magic,
the beauty that's been
when love was wilder than the wind.
Listen to your heart
when he's calling for you.
Listen to your heart
there's nothing else you can do.

Re: Hypothetical: Georgetown vs. UVA
This is not a hypothetical, this is an actual choice you are facing. The answer is the same as the answer to most questions on here -- Retake and ED to UVA. If you don't need to retake to get in ED at UVA then great, you can skip the first step.
Which is better for your goals?
NYC biglaw -- UVA
DC biglaw -- UVA
the South -- UVA

So you think it would be worth waiting the year if it meant getting into UVA?ringo wrote:This is not a hypothetical, this is an actual choice you are facing. UVA is better in all categories. Only you can address whether it is worth waiting a year, but given the fact that you are willing and able to do so, waiting a year would be the right decision. Also, retake if possible to get $$ from UVA

This. What downsides do you see to waiting a year? I am assuming you will spend it putting something decent on your resume and putting a few dollars in the bank.FloridaCoastalorbust wrote:UVA is better in all categories. Yes, definitely.
Thanks for the advice. I was unsure of how much better the job prospects truly would be out of UVA over Georgetown.

UVA>G-Town. Georgetown's only advantage is being in DC.fatpeanut2222 wrote:Yes, definitely.
