Mich ($15k/yr) vs. Vandy ($25k/yr) vs. USC ($30k/yr)

Post by andrel2006 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 12:13 pm

So yeah, can't decide totally yet...

I'm personally leaning Michigan, but am having trouble just deciding (is there much danger in waiting 'til the deadline to submit my seat deposit?).

I live in and like California, and would probably stay in NorCal, for which I hear Mich is best (of my choices), but $90k+ in debt is really ugly looking. Vandy would be cheapest, all things considered, and I would probably feel less nervous living in Nashville than USC-area LA. But, I hear good things about USC's post-grad care (though I heard that second-hand, so I'm not sure how true it is).

So to sum up: I'm liking how Michigan looks, in all respects, but is it so good that I can afford to snub USC and Vandy's extremely generous scholarships?

Take Vandy out of the conversation unless you want to work in the East/South/Southeast. It's a Big 10 v. PAC 12 decision for California.

That's what I was starting to think about Vandy (I was mostly enamored by the pricetag).

Pardon my ignorance, though: what does 'PAC 12' mean? Top-12 Pacific Coast?

College sports reference. (Those are two athletic conferences. Pacific Atlantic Conference 12 [12 schools].)

EDIT:
Michigan might be a decent bet, since you have CA ties and it IS a T14. Of course, there is something to be said for a little less debt and a strong regional alumni base.

$90k in debt for Michigan isn't too bad at all.

I don't know about how well USC does in NorCal, but unless they do really well I'd go Michigan here.
