Why would a law school have a seating chart?

Post by Cartman » Fri Mar 30, 2012 2:21 pm

What is this, preschool?

Is this a graduate/professional school or elementary school? How belittling.

Ashamed this needs to happen. (T-14, for the record.)

I'm pretty sure every law school uses seating charts if the class uses socratic method.

Socratic method bro. It is easier to learn names that way.

So the prof knows your name when he calls on you (since its almost all socratic method). Many profs keep record on the chart of who has been socratically brutalized, so the prof knows when someone else is due a turn. And knowing where the people sit, rather than just having a list of names, helps a lot more for memorizing who is who.

Just figured out your stupidity. You are a 0L.

Law school will be filled with things that make no sense out of the context of law school. Get used to it and go with the flow.

It's so the prof can put a little check next to your name every time you say something halfway intelligent.

Try to get at least 5 throughout the semester, but no more than 10, lest you be labeled "gunner" and get talked about mercilessly behind your back. There is no correlation between talking a lot and doing well.

Oh, and that bit about "bonus for class participation"? It's usually a load of bullshit. You just want to talk enough so if you need a rec from the prof in a year, your name rings a bell.

It's so the profs know who is who, and can keep track of positive and negative participation by students. Stop being a twat.

I think you will find that law school and preschool have a great deal in common.
