UIUC or UMD?

Post by diegoforlan10 » Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:06 pm

Hi all.

I have a 1/3rd scholarship to UIUC, oos. This means I will pay approx. $30k/year in tuition. No scholarship at UMD yet = about $24k/year in-state tuition.

I have lived a half hour north of Baltimore almost my entire life, except for when I attended UMD undergrad. I have strong ties to the area but I am not set on remaining here. I have no problem moving to the midwest for the rest of my life and actually am very interested in seeing what Chicago has to offer.

I am worried about UIUC's recent issues. I don't know whether or not it is a school on the decline. I want to go to the school that offers me the best chance at securing a good job, period. I don't care where I would end up geographically. It would be a bonus to live in a nice area for three years while I'm studying.

What do you think, TLS? Which of the two schools would you recommend?

Please try to offer constructive advice and not "retake," thanks.

PS the scholly was bumped up today from 25%. I was hoping for half, in which case I would have jumped at UIUC. Should I ask for more later on?
