UVA Admissions 2012-2013 cycle
Due to their rise from 9 to 7 in this most recent USNWR will UVA admissions be much more competitive this? Will the new ranking make it tougher for splitters to have a good chance?

If anything, they will continue to use their splitter ED strategy, since that is what gave them a boost (effectively protecting their yield).

Yep. Rumor has it nobody is getting in next year, they're just pulling from this year's WL.

T14 is T14. The rankings within there are only relevant if you want to impress your friends who know nothing about law schools.

UVA's lack of lay prestige in the northeast leads to many annoying conversations with family who don't understand what they are talking about. Showing them that UVA was tied with their beloved Penn, and telling them that these rankings are, like, super important, got them off my back a bit.

If I could hold up a straight face and tell this to people I know, some would probably believe me. I've basically come to the conclusion that people have not heard of any law school except Harvard.Julio_El_Chavo wrote:yeah, YLS = UVAenvisciguy wrote:T14 is T14. Ha, alright. I'll admit my argument has a couple holes. I should've said T14 outside of the T6 is T14 outside of the T6. Or outside HYS or wherever we draw the line. I'm not arguing the schools are all the same in terms of prestige, but just that moving within the T14 won't really change the prestige enough to get more or less to apply. At least you'd hope that it wouldn't....Julio_El_Chavo wrote:yeah, YLS = UVAenvisciguy wrote:T14 is T14. Edit: Alright, now to make my original argument sound even worse, I need to admit that I use the rankings to impress said friends who know nothing about law schools as well...
