NC Central

Post by Panth8080 » Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:52 pm

I got accepted into here recently. I live in NC and it's a great deal for someone with my admittedly mediocre LSAT/GPA. Anyways I wanted to see if anyone has insights into this school. I know it's not close to Wake, UNC, or Duke, but I am curious about its comparison to Elon, Charlotte, or Campbell. NCCU has been around for 60 years and has an established alumni base to help with jobs after school. I know I probably won't make six figures after graduation, but for $10,000 a year I think I can pay that off without major sacrifice. All views are appreciated, especially if you are from the Carolinas. Thanks.

I'm from NC. Central has a pretty good alumni network here though not as good as Wake or UNC and Campbell is catching up fast. A lot depends on what you want to do and where you plan to live an practice. Central is extremely public service/clinic oriented. I worked in the court system for several years before law school and Central grads were always well represented. In my judicial district most of the judges are Central grads. One thing to consider is Central has a brutal C curve (probably one of the worst in the nation) and professors will fail students-about 20 percent doesn't come back mainly due to grades. I think they have to hedge, though, because they accept really low LSAT and GPAs. I was accepted there and when I met with admissions they said they typically YP against people with my numbers (which were NOT great at all) I had to convince the administration that I wasn't just using it as a back up to the other Triangle area schools. Friends who went there don't put their GPAs on their resumes just their class ranks due to the curve. The dean just announced his resignation this year and I know he was working really hard to boost their reputation so it's a toss up as to what the next dean will do. If your choices are between Elon, Charlotte, and Central I'd choose Central all day every day. I'd also choose it over Campbell with no money. Central has no reputation outside of the state so if you're not planning to stay here it isn't the best choice.
