For those interested in attending a Texas law school, I decided to compile the total 2011/2012 COE for each school. This information is from each school's website. Keep in mind that tuition is most likely going up for all in 2012/2013.
A couple points of interest:
1. Schools in Houston (UH, South Texas, TSU) have a wider variance than I would expect for Room/Board (these are off-campus living numbers) and Transportation. Does it really cost $3700 more for Room/Board and Transportation if you go to South Texas instead of UH?
Also, after seeing all the numbers together, it's interesting how there is such a variance between all schools for cost of books; aside from Baylor, personal/misc. seem pretty consistent.
2. "Expenditures Per Student" is currently 11.25% of the USNWR school score for purposes of ranking. This number is largely a product of tuition costs. If this number were taken out, would SMU and Baylor drop below UH? Would UT move up? It's interesting to think about.
UT:
$32,010 Tuition/fees In-state ($47,532 Out-of-state)
$10,422 Room/board
$1,130 Books
$1,200 Transportation
$2,250 Personal/Misc.
$47,712 Total ($63,234 Out-of-state)

$10,554 Room/board
$1,671 Books
$4,443 Transportation
$3,801 Personal/Misc.
$63,948 Total
$191,844 Three-year Total
SMU: (**SMU is reporting the 2012/2013 numbers on the JD Financial Aid page of their website; the 2011/2012 Tuition/fees number is from SMU's 2011/2012 Admission Statistics page, and the remainder are the 2012/2013 numbers, which should be substantially similar to last year.)
$42,057 Tuition/fees
$15,500 Living Expenses (Room/Board and Transportation, I assume)
$2,000 Books
$2,738 Personal/Misc.
$62,295 Total

$1,500 Books
$2,566 Transportation
$3,000 Personal/Misc.
$46,566 Total
$139,698 Three-year Total
Texas Southern: (**TSU reports only 2010/2011 on their website, so the 2011/2012 Tuition/fees number is from USNWR, and the remainder are the 2010/2011 numbers, which should be substantially similar to this year.)

Re: Texas Law Schools -- Total Cost
Nice work.
The room and board figure does seem low for Houston. From what I have seen, the rents are pretty comparable to (or more than) Austin's, and UT already low-balls that figure a little bit.
