Cornell vs. UVA vs. Vanderbilt

Post by calypso4 » Fri Mar 16, 2012 1:52 pm

Hello All,

I am considering Cornell, UVA, and Vandebrilt to attend next fall. I have a $25,000/year scholarship from both UVA and Vanderbilt. I am waiting on financial aid information from Cornell. I think these are all great schools, but I wanted an outside opinion.

Any Thoughts??

Where do you want to work? Where do you have ties?

NYC - Cornell

DC/South - UVA and Vanderbilt

IMHO, I'd go with UVA

UVa unless Cornell matches or gives you more. If more, go Cornell. If match, go based on fit.

Depends what you want. If you want NYC biglaw then Cornell. UVA for the south but you can also get NYC. Really it will come down to feel between Cornell and UVA. I would go Cornell though due to the fact that they place amazingly well in biglaw.

Also your decision may be easier once you get financial information from Cornell.

UVA hands down.

UVA, like every T14, has spectacular NYC placement. No reason to take Cornell over it with 75k+ on the line.

Charlottesville > Ithaca

At some point you may actually want to visit these places. These schools are not "equal" in their job placement, but you are not going to be completely SOL coming out of Vanderbilt either.

If you negotiate with Vandy, think they'll give you full ride? If not, go with UVA.

In fact, probably go with UVA regardless.

and Vanderbilt
This. Ties don't matter in NYC.

Even if you want to go to NYC, Virginia is a good choice. If Cornell beats their offer, then maybe consider coming here. Also, I like Ithaca. VA > Cornell >> Vandy.

UVA - hands down, especially given the financials you shared.

That's a retarded way to differentiate between these schools.

If you want big law, then Cornell and Virginia are basically equivalent so take the one that gives you more money. No point in taking Vanderbilt with money at UVA.

UVA unless Cornell offers you substantially more money.

Why? OP gave us no other information.

It is just as valid as any other way of choosing.

I never even thought about going to Cornell. I couldn't stomach the thought of spending 3 years in Ithaca. That is all.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
