Kentucky versus St. Louis!?!
Hello!
I am currently working toward making a decision between University of Kentucky and St. Louis University. I attended school at UVA, and am looking to head back closer to home for law school and for future work. I am not sure exactly where I want to practice, but I like the idea of the Louisville, St. Louis, Nashville, Charlotte or even Charleston areas. What do people think about the ability of a UK degree versus a degree from St. Louis in terms of job prospects in nearby cities? I am also waiting to hear back from a few schools in these areas, but in the event that I do not get in I would love to hear some opinions!

Hyper regional schools with almost no reach outside their regions. Are you from Kentucky or STL?

Yeah, Kentucky will at least feed into Louisville for you, but the rest of those markets are going to be difficult for you (Nashville is difficult for everyone, generally, but especially coming out of either of those schools).

Yes, I am originally from Kentucky. I did also get into Louisville and Howard, but am not sure how interested I am in the DC area. Is Howard worth looking into some more?

Realism: you're not going to get Charlotte, Charleston, or Nashville from either of those schools.
Is retaking an option?

Seriously... OP: how about doing some very basic research on law schools and placement over the course of the next year while you prepare for your retake. You have not figured out what you want yet, which leads to all sorts of mistakes when diving head first into something like this. Any scholarships?jeeptiger09 wrote:Realism: you're not going to get Charlotte, Charleston, or Nashville from either of those schools.

That's good advice, I will consider once I hear back from the rest of the schools and get more scholarship information in the coming weeks. Right now I have 60k from SLU, and am waiting to get more information on the rest.

Retake is your best option. Youre an AA, so you just gotta crack 160 and the opportunities start opening up a lot.clg9ha wrote:That's good advice, I will consider once I hear back from the rest of the schools and get more scholarship information in the coming weeks. If you get money at Kentucky, maybe go there since you're from the state. Send SLU a withdrawal letter first thing in the morning. Not worth 120k+ under any circumstances, and even less worth it as a non-native.

I don't really see St. Louis beating Memphis, Michigan State, New Mexico and Missouri to get to the final four, so that matchup seems very unlikely...

I'm basing my decision for next year entirely on the tournament. 100%. Tiebreaker is UNSWR rankings.Excellent117 wrote:I don't really see St. Louis beating Memphis, Michigan State, New Mexico and Missouri to get to the final four, so that matchup seems very unlikely...

Well if I base my decision on the bracket, Kentucky suddenly does become my best bet. Good luck!
