Chicago. The biglaw placement is about the same from both.

Chicago, but see if you can negotiate up from $30k.

They are peer schools so you should take the cheaper one. That being said, since they're both going to put you over 200k debt by graduation, I could see a case being made for CLS if you heavily prefer it over UChi.

With such a small difference, just go with the school you'll be happiest at.

Unless you have a really serious urge to live in NYC (if we can even call Morningside Heights that....) I would advocate for Chicago.

This is probably TCR, but also remember that UChi is around $5K cheaper per year in tuition.. The overall difference in the student budget is around $7K per year so you are really looking at a total difference in cost of ~$50K.smokeylarue wrote:With such a small difference, just go with the school you'll be happiest at.

Yes Morningside Heights is in Manhattan. Why would you think it is anywhere else?senhorquick wrote:Unless you have a really serious urge to live in NYC (if we can even call Morningside Heights that....) I would advocate for Chicago.

Visit both, ask for more scholarship money, then decide.

Are you an automaton completely devoid of personal preference as to atmosphere and culture, school size, region of the country, etc.? If so, then Chicago. Unfortunately, if you have any normal human feelings whatsoever you're on your own for this one, because there is hardly any right answer here.

Does Biglaw hire deeper into Chicago's class or Columbia's? Or is it virtually the same for both, and OP should not consider such nonsense?

Wouldn't COL be a bit higher at CLS as well?Emma. wrote:This is probably TCR, but also remember that UChi is around $5K cheaper per year in tuition.. Peer schools are peer schools. Some of the uber-elite firms may go slightly deeper into Columbia's class, but overall they have very similar placement power.AS33 wrote:Does Biglaw hire deeper into Chicago's class or Columbia's? Lol ok. My statements are admittedly biased towards the NY market.Emma. wrote:And some uber elite firms hire at UChi but not CLS.Bronck wrote:Peer schools are peer schools. Lulz. I mean, what I said is true (e.g. Keker & Van Nest) but mostly I was just messing with you.Bronck wrote:Lol ok. We do have a strong record with sending kids to Wachtell though, if you're into that kind of thing.

Haha, fair enough. At the end of the day, that kind of minutiae doesn't really matterEmma. wrote: Lulz. I mean, what I said is true (e.g. Keker & Van Nest) but mostly I was just messing with you.

Any difference between the two for NYC Biglaw? Slight edge for CLS maybe.
