Help me pick, I only have 20 days.

Post by yellowdinosaur » Sat Mar 10, 2012 1:11 am

UMKC: Full Tuition plus books = Free
Mizzou: 8k a year = 10k a year
Slu: 24k per year = 11k a year
Chicago-Kent:20k a year = 20k per year
Iowa: Unknown = 40k per year
American: Unknown = 45k per year
Northeastern: 10k a year = 30k a year

I have no idea what kind of law I want to practice or where I want to practice.

Any constructive comments will help.

That's a really odd list of schools, and how did you get 40 at Iowa but only 20 at Kent. Did you apply late?

I know its odd because I wanted different options. However, I said Iowa's scholarships are unknown so I would have to pay 40k a year. If I had a scholarship of 40k a year to Iowa I would take it!

How is this possible? Where did you grow up, go to college, etc? Where is your family?

I grew up in Boston, all my sisters are there. My mother is in Kansas City. My boyfriend is going to law school as well and he doesn't know where. However, I want your opinions based on the school and their value vs. how much I would have to pay.

I understand, but ties are very important. You should also factor in COL, I'm assuming these numbers are only for tuition. I would throw out Iowa, American, and Northeastern right away. 100k+ for those schools is absurd. LST has Northeastern at 51% of students getting full time, bar required positions and American at 58%. Iowa is the best school here, but it's not worth it at sticker.

I don't know very much about UMKC, Mizzou or SLU... but if you're willing to work/live in St. Louis/KC, then these seem like your best bets, especially since you have ties to the state.

Thank you this is very helpful. When it comes down to it, I am suck between Mizzou and UMKC. My very good friend is going to Mizzou so I would be her roommate and my boyfriend is strongly considering Mizzou as well. However, I have a full tuition scholarship to UMKC, and it is hard to turn it down.

Mizzou will give you much better employment prospects than UMKC. UMKC does ok in KC, and there are grads throughout the sate, but MU has the bigger alumni network and is the flagship in MO. In my opinion, MU is definitely worth the 10k a year as opposed to UMKC, unless you absolutely are needing to avoid loans. I am assuming that the MU scholly has a top half stip? Do you qualify for in-state if you lose it?

Is the SLU scholly just the 2.0 stip?

If you want to discuss these schools more, feel free to PM me, I've spent a lot of time researching the Missouri schools.

156, 3.77 some schools consider me an URM, some don't.
